The Tragedy of Jiiran Empty The Tragedy of Jiiran

Post by Vara Lord Sat May 11, 2013 9:55 pm

In many ways, it can be said that Jiiran's story began on the world of Vathoris. Unlike most space-age worlds, Vathoris does not function as a single nation, but is rather a confederacy of twelve distinct nations that exist on the planet. Each nation is free to govern its own affairs in whatever way it sees fit; however, every month, the most important officials of each nation meet to discuss and act upon matters that concern the entire world as a whole.

The most important nation in this story is the nation of Desrin. This nation was and still is home to the finest minds to be found on Vathoris. This is due in large part to the free system that exists in this particular nation, where brilliant minds in art and science were able to flourish. This nation was also famous for harboring large amounts of aliens from other worlds that had decided to make their homes there. The inhabitants of this region were quite welcoming in this regard, rightly seeing it as culturally enriching.

However, there are few good things that cannot be somehow twisted to foul purposes. Living in this nation were some Liirlith. Those who have had any experience with this particular race knows that they are conniving and seemingly always up to no good. However, these particular Liirlith claimed to have disavowed such things. The citizens of Desrin welcomed them gladly, and all seemed well; indeed, the Liirlith's knowledge on genetics was beneficial in many ways.

Little did the citizens of Desrin realize that they had been deceived. These Liirlith were in fact covert angents for the people, sent to this world as overseers of their people's latest experiment.

The Tragedy of Jiiran Empty Re: The Tragedy of Jiiran

Prince Vey Churim of Daro left the council building in a huff. He had pushed and pushed fro them to continue the watch on Daryssan, but Viceroy Godmar's voice had won. The watch would be discontinued. It had been folly nine years since the war, Godmar had argued, and not a sign of activity had been seen; why continue watching? They should see to their own affairs?

Aarin Tiirmot met Vey on the way back to the palace. One would have not thought that they were related, seeing how different they looked. Aarin was taller, had olive-green skin with red marks on the arms, mostly hair-like finlics (flexible flesh-like structures that all Vatarri possess), and two serrated horns. Vey was shorter and broader, with uniform dark brownish-gray skin, no horns, and mostly beaded finlics, as well as a pair of pinnaform finlics above his eyes. However, they had had the same mother, even if they had different fathers.

Aarin was unerringly loyal to his older stepbrother, many had thought, since his father was the former Prince of Daro, that he would be chosen. However, it was Vey who had been chosen. Aarin, however, didn't mind.

He looked at Vey's face and instantly knew. "Godmar?"

Vey nodded. "The watch is going to be dropped."

Aarin shook his head in disbelief. "How can they agree to that? Drastic Var still has the device. If we leave, who knows what he'll do."

Vey nodded, grinding his teeth. A rock suddenly split in two. "What can we do? Prime Minister Gesme of Tesmis support me, as does the President of Hazlo, but against the other nine officials, we don't count very much."

Aarin squeezed Vey's soldier. "You can always make a difference here. Even if you can't make the other Vathorin heads of state see reason, we here know you are a good leader, and only want what's right."

"Thank you," said Vey quietly, pumping his step-brother's hand. A sudden beeping came from Vey's communicator.

"What is it?" asked Vey, activating his link comm.

"Chief Scientist Allé Hadrin, Sire," said a voice.

"Go ahead, Allé," said Vey. "How goes it up there in orbit.

"Sir, we have an unidentified object coming towards the planet on a collision course. It seems to be an escape pod."

"Does it match any known race or empire?" asked Vey.

"Negative, Sir. It does not conform to any known design."

"Tractor it, and bring it to landing strip three," ordered Vey. He put the communicator away. "Coem on Aarin. Let's get a party together and see what we have. We'll need a medical team, most likely."

"I'll get Mott, too," said Aarin "He should be present."

"Good thinking," said Vey.

The Tragedy of Jiiran Empty Re: The Tragedy of Jiiran

An excited crowd was gathering around the bizarre craft that was let down in the shipyard. Vey had call a few guards to keep the crowds back. He and Aarin watched as Mott Gatiir, the Chief Technician and Engineer of Daro, worked at the door. Mott Gatiir was a Humdar, and had light grey fur that was almost white. To one side, Chief Scientist Allé Hadrin was running some tests on the metal side of the pod.

"I'm afraid it's no good," he said after a while. "It doesn't match up to any known designs."

Vey nodded and turned to Mott. "How is it going, Mott?"

"Keep your tunic on," grunted Mott. "I've almost got it."

There was a hiss as the final seal was removed and the door slid open. Inside was dark. Mott peered, and immediately jumped back with a yelp. "There's something alive in there!"

Vey hurried over and peered in. The sound of movement and ragged breathing came from within. "Bring me a light, please" he called.

Mott handed him a mechanic's lantern. Vey lifted inside and peered in. Astonishment filled him at what he saw.

Something crouched in the corner, something large. The creature was a pale bluish-green, smooth-skinned, except for some sort of mane going from the back of his head down his neck. He had a longish ridged snout, with the ridge going a little past his brow. Each limb ended in four clawed digits, the feet being digitigrade, with one two directly opposing the other. A tail was wrapped around the limbs defensively. They creature was obviously quite strongly built, however, he was cowering with obvious fear and terror. The creature seemed to be weeping in its fear.

Vey realized this would need to be handled with caution. Carefully lowering the light into the pod, he slowly climbed in. "Hello," he said to the creature. "I'm not going to hurt you. I am a friend. Can you understand me?"

The creature whimpered, and tried to get farther away from him. Vey squatted down and extended his hand. "It's all right," he said soothingly. "I won't hurt you."

For a few moments he sat, giving more soft encouragement to him, keeping his arm extended, palm out. At first, the creature remained where it was. Soon, however, it began tom inch forward cautiously. "That's right," said Vey encouragingly. "You're safe."

Slowly the creature extended its arm, and touched Vey's hand. Then it came closer, looking not quite so afraid. Vey held his hand up, palm facing the creature. The creature lifted his own hand and placed it palm-to-palm with Vey's. Vey's three-fingered hand was dwarfed by the four-fingered one placed against it. The creature then began to examine Vey with more interest. Vey could feel the creature's immense strength as it touched him. The creature finished his examination and squatted in front of Vey, looking at him quizzically. Then it noticed the light and began to examine, obviously fascinated.

"Vey," called Mott's voice from outside. "What's going on in there? Are you all right?"

"I'm fine," called Vey back. "There's someone in here." The creature paused, looking at Vey and casting a nervous glance outside. Vey moved himself towards the entrance and dropped down to the ground, beckoning the creature to do so. He came cautiously to the entrance, but was obviously afraid of coming out.

"Come on, Friend," coaxed Vey. "No one is going to hurt you."

Aarin stepped up, looking at the creature in amazement. "Is he frightened Vey?"

"Yes, he is," said Vey. "Careful not to startle him."

Aarin came to the entrance and held his hand out to the creature. He drew away for a moment, but then touched Aarin's hand. Aarin smiled at him, and in a moment, the creature smiled back. Together, Aarin and Vey coaxed him out. He dropped carefully to the ground, and then stood up straight.

Vey was a little startled. He had seen before that this creature was large and strong, but now it was very much apparent. The creature was almost eight feet in height, and was incredibly strong and muscular, with not an inch of his frame wasted on fat. He looked around him cautiously, and moved a little closer to Aarin and Vey.

Mott stepped up and looked him up and down. The creature shrank back a little. "Careful, Mott," aid Vey. "Don't frighten him."

"Coming through," said a voice. The crowd parted, and a slender, lizard-like creature came forward. This was a Liirlith, one of several that had taken residence on Vathoris. This particular individual, Drask by name, was a medical practitioner.

Vey nodded at him. "Careful, Drask," said Vey. "He may not be ready for that."

"No need to worry," said the Liirlith in the sibilant voice characteristic of his race. He turned to the creature. "Come here my friend and let me examine you." To everyone's astonishment, the creature did exactly what it had been told. Drask made a thorough examination. "He sssseemssss to be in good condition," he said.

"In that case," said Mott, "We might want to get the creature some clothes."

Vey peered into the lounge room. The creature was curled up on the couch, sleeping. Withdrawing quietly, Vey returned to the kitchen where a small meeting was assembled. Aarin, Mott, and Allé were all seated at the table. Vey took a seat. He looked at Allé. "Anything?" he asked.

Allé shook his head. "I've checked our databases twice. He doesn't match any race or species we ever encountered before. Whatever he is, it's something completely unknown."

"I wonder why he can't talk," mused Aarin. "He seems mature."

"Maybe he was a feral child," suggested Mott. "Everything he's encountered so far is obviously new to him."

"Perhaps his memory was erased," suggested Aarin. "Poor fellow. He seems to be in bad way. Whatever happened to him must have been awful."

"It is strange," mused Vey. "For a creature of his size and strength, he's awfully timid and afraid. Still, physical build has no correlation with personality I guess." He looked up. "What shall we do with him?"

"We certainly can't just turn him out," said Aarin. "I think he should just be guided and watched for the time being. We can probably teach him to speak."

Vey nodded. "Agreed then." He sighed. "I guess you're all probably tired. I know I am. I suggest we go to bed." This proposal was accepted unanimously.

Vey woke up. He heard noises. Going back to lounge, he peered in. The creature was twitching and whimpering in his sleep. Vey came over quietly and gently touched the creature's head, making gentle shushing noises. The creature relaxed and settled down. Vey stroked his mane.

Who are you? he thought. Where did you come from? Can you tell us? Do you even remember yourself?

Eventually, Vey went back to bed.
