The Zealot smiled slightly, though no one would know with his helmet covering his head and beak.

"This....is good. It will help you. There very possibly may be some choices you will be confronted with that could halt you. The UFIAI, are, after all.....similar, at the very least, to yourself. Perhaps I am not the most morally based one to ask, I have seen and done many things that may have dulled my mind to the effects of war, reinforcing a certain..relentlessness. You could say this has hurt me, but I see it as an advantage. To be able to do what must be done. Do you understand?" He replied to the Captain Unit, not telling him this was a foreseen effect of the process which the Wreae went through, kept secret from him.

Isbar did come out, and was greeted by great curiosity, something he didn't like. More than one came up to him, and was greeted by a rather intimidating glare, accentuated by his horned bony face and naturally arching eyebrows.

Aarin, Mott and Allé, however, soon found a fair amount of attention on themselves, since they were friendlier and more forthcoming, especially Aarin.

Re: Disruption (IC)

After awhile, the crowds dissipated, for the most part, as families departed, leaving only the people who were going to board the Majesty for the mission, and those who were responsible for loading the fresh supplies onto the ship, exchanging the broken crates for new ones filled with provisions. The sudden dwindling of people was partially due to the Chimerosu representatives, who grew worried after a time that the large crowd might pose a risk to the other aliens. Although the curiosity of the natives was only natural, given that they had never seen anything other than different Chimerosu, it could be potentially dangerous if they crowded too much. With the help of multiple authorities, the crowd was cleared enough for everyone to safely walk around without being hounded. It didn't hurt that Ravage had a Spiromander, either, as people soon found that getting too close to the Krylonian made Xenos growl at them in a rather threatening manner, as he was extremely protective of his master. His presence alone chased away multiple people, who were so mistrusting of the animal's nature to think it might lash out and attack random people, though in reality, no such thing would have happened with Ravage around to prevent it.

Now with everyone able to walk about without being hassled by the natives, people were free to explore the area around them. They were soon interrupted, however, by a vehicle of sorts that arrived and landed right next to the ship. It wasn't really much of a vehicle, but a sort of large, moving platform, with huge, overlapping triangular wings that were formed by solar panels, and a sort of jet in the back of it. The platform itself was rectangular, with a kind of fence around the edge to prevent passengers from falling off. A panel was located in the back of it that allowed people to tell it where to go. A gate at the front of the ship opened, and a ramp slid down, allowing people to walk off of it. Normally, people would expect the Chimerosu on the planet to fly where they needed go, but for long distances, it was important that they have other modes of transportation other than their wings.

The first thing to exit the platform, was not a Chimerosu, or any sapient being, for that matter, but a pet. With a loud chorus of excited barking, an alien hound of sorts charged down the ramp, the nails on its paws skidding as it slipped slightly on the ramp, but regained its footing once it came in contact with the bark of the branch everyone was on. It then charged up to where everyone was, stopped a distance away from them, and began barking at them, wagging its tail. The creature was a large dog in appearance, but had extremely long, rabbit-like ears with tufts on the tips, and a bunny or goat-like nose. It had tendrils or antennae of sort coming from above its eyes, and it also had two whiskers coming off of its chin, making it seem almost slightly like a dragon in appearance. The creature had reddish fur with a white underbelly, and a brushy tail. Its eyes were bright yellow, accented by darker coloration around the eyes. It had a slight pink tinge around the tip of its snout, and it appeared to be male. Right now, his ears were pricked and alert, and he wagged his tail wildly.

From the platform, the owner of the pet gave a call, a sound similar to the call of a songbird, and Ravage looked sharply over at it, her eyes widening slightly with surprise or shock. Anyone who had heard Ravage talk to Xenos before, or give the Spiromander a command, knew that she spoke to him in the native Krylonian language. Anyone who had heard Krylonian tongue, knew that it was what the owner of the dog had just spoken. It then lapsed from Krylonian into international tongue. "Arrow! Would you wait up?!" The owner of the dog himself then came down the platform. It was clearly another Krylonian, and it was immediately obvious that unlike Ravage, he had no mutations that dramatically altered his appearance. His feathers were a brighter shade of deep sky blue, and his stripes were a darker shade of the same blue, an entire spectrum paler than Ravage's. He lacked the iridescence Ravage had about her feathers, as well as the sleek waterproof coating of oil on his feathers. He didn't have a bony ridge on his skull, and his horns were not as thick or strong-looking. His talons were also relatively small, and seemed useless as weapons. He had no spines trailing down his back, and there were no teeth or reptilian pupils, either. He was, however, covered in scars, which, while not capable of causing him any sort of permanent problems, definitely mutilated his appearance, which would have otherwise been very beautiful. The scars were claw and bite marks, and even at a distance, they suspiciously matched up with Ravage's claws and teeth.

With Ravage present, Samir only emphasized how different the two were. More surprising, was that Ravage was not even in the least happy that he was there. Upon seeing him, her eyes narrowed, the pupils contracting to thin slits, as she flicked her tail. It was the closest she could get to it without launching into outright aggression. It was perhaps not the kind of reaction anyone would expect. Travis took no note of it, however, and instead walked up to Samir, the other representatives behind him, "Samir, glad y'all could make it, we going on a tour of Vitis?" He asked, squinting one eye.

Samir nodded, "Yes, that would be correct, we are, it's more for the benefit of giving everyone a moment to relax a little more before you all leave for space and go stir crazy on the Majesty. Well, technically, I should actually say 'we', considering that I'm going with you, as well. The old Chimerosu Empire is a part of my heritage, so of course I am going to get involved in this. I've been doing combat training, for once, so I won't wind up completely defenseless if we run into some sort of problem." At this, one's mind immediately flashed to Ravage's rages, and wondered if Samir meant dangers faced in space, or if he simply meant being able to keep himself from getting killed by the mutant Krylonian. It seemed more like the latter, than the former, although he would likely be fighting, also, regarding the presence of Arachnarche where everyone was going.

Travis seemed to consider this, too, for he was slow to respond, for a moment, as though hesitating, "Er, yes, well, that's good. It seems some dangerous creatures are living in the fifth arm, so you'll be needed. We don't need giant insects eating our ship. Also, any chance we can fit that thing on the hovercraft?" He gestured towards Xenos, the largest creature who would be traveling with the group.

Samir's eyes widened, having only just now noticed the Spiromander, and who was standing next to it. "Ah, yes, there's room. When and how did she tame a..." He drifted off, and shook his head, "Never mind." He then waved everyone to board the platform. Samir's dog Arrow trotted up behind him, and the last to board the hovercraft was Ravage, followed by Xenos, the former seeming almost reluctant to take the tour, perhaps because of the clearly strained past. She instructed Xenos to lay down on the ship, and soon, the hovercraft took off,  flying away from the Majesty, and descending down the branches of the tree, before flying to another tree nearby. The trip took about fifteen minutes, and soon, they were landing again, and everyone could get off.

Even though they were on the lower levels, there was still bright sunlight filtering through, and it appeared to come from two equally sized yellow suns. This branch, notably, had shallow grooves carved into the bark, which would have no effect on the tree, but served an important purpose. Within the grooves Vitisans had placed soil, and so farms grew on the branches of the tree, having so many different fruits and vegetables that nobody could count them all. Thinner offshoots from the tree branch, it seemed, had been sawed off, and when the tree healed them, they became nubs. These dead nubs were hollowed out, and turned into houses where the farmers lived. Samir got off the platform, and turned to everyone, "What you are seeing is one of many examples of Vitisan society. This planet is dominated by agriculture, but natural medicine is a common practice, too. A lot of sick people get better if they come and stay on Vitis, and overall, just breathing the air here is good for you. The people here are very careful about keeping a pristine environment, and so much of why Vitis is so nice is because of the large atmosphere that supports these trees, and the fact that people can effectively live on the tree without killing it. These farms here are filled with only a small number of the things that can be grown here, and the fact is there are more fruits than the eye can count."

Isbar stood on the platform, watching the scenery go by. His mind seemed far away. Aarin and Allé listened with interest to what Samir was saying; however, Aarin occasionally cast a glance in Ravage's direction, having noticed her obvious discomfort. He casually took up a seat next to her. Over the rush of air and Samir speaking, the quietest noises were effectively muted, except to Ravage and Isbar. Although they might have noticed his lips twitching, only those with the sharpest hearing could have heard him, whispering in tone he knew only Ravage would hear: "How are you holding?"

Mott, meanwhile, was sitting on the floor of the platform, looking none too happy. "So much for healing air," he groaned. "Did they need to have this thing moving so fast. Bluurgh!"

Re: Disruption (IC)

Post by Zaroas on Tue Dec 24, 2013 3:34 pm

((I'm going to split my post up into a couple different parts, as it was much too long.))

Neither Theranis nor Rakluth responded to Q’ren’s question as the ship glided through space towards Sethega. It approached a large space station that orbited above Sethega in sync with that of the planet to allow for it to act as a conduit between space and the area below. The station was shaped like two trapezoidal prisms connected on the base, which lay vertical. Around this structure were two large rings., connected to the station with hundreds of small bridge-like structures.  There was much vehicular activity around the station – The rings acted as docking bays for ships up to around the size of Frigates, while larger ships such as Destroyers and Carriers were docked using large gravity fields to hold them around the station. Q’ren’s ship, auto-piloted by the ship’s AI, flew into an aperture in the bottom ring as directed by those aboard the station.

Upon entering the docking area, gravity beams allowed the ship to be held in place and mechanized bridges attached under the doors of the ship. The group onboard went to the side door from which they had initially entered, led by Theranis. The hatch door slid down, revealing a long stairway with a dozen or so armored Krathunian soldiers at the bottom, pointing their guns apprehensively upon at the door, as they did not know what the ship was or who was inside it.

Obviously, the Sentinel was very angry at this, and he came storming down the ramp like a slow moving avalanche – Deadly, dreadful, and seemingly furious. He swore a couple times in Talus and then Yvenun, the other Krathunian language, before shouting, “What are you doing? Stand at attention and salute!” The soldiers seemed to become instantly sober and each held out a closed fist to the Sentinel.  Theranis did the same back, wordless from rage, before continuing past the soldiers to one of the bridges connecting the ring to the main part of the station. He turned to the rest of the group as soon as they were out of the way of the soldiers. “Sorry, everyone. They didn’t know who or what was in the ship.”

Everyone continued  through the bridge, a tubular structure with transparent materials above and to the sides to allow for viewing of the planet and the rest of the station. After speaking with several officials, Theranis led the group to several rows of doors. He scanned one with a hologram, and it opened to reveal a shuttle that would take them down to Sethega. He instructed everyone to have a seat and strap in to prevent injuries.

“Now, before we get down there,” Theranis spoke as the shuttle doors closed and the small ship detached from the station, plasma engines starting. “Does anyone have any questions about Sethega?”

Svar had his suspicions of whom this new arrival was, and this was confirmed due to Ravage's reaction and his name being spoken by Travis. During the ride, Svar stood still, watching the scenery go by. The howling wind due to the speed of the craft was comforting to the Krathunian, having been raised on arctic, chilled mountains. Every else he saw on Vitis, however, showed how dissimilar it was from the home of Krathunians as a whole - Especially the sight that everyone had taken in upon the platform's stop. Unlike Vitis, Covenant worlds were frigid places, filled with rocky crags, towering metropolises, and ridiculous amounts of snow rather than fruit and enormous, hollowed trees. Still, it was a fresh experience.

Re: Disruption (IC)

Samir looked over at Mott, and flicked his tail, "Ah, sorry, there, I suppose I forgot to factor in that the speed might not agree with some people. Chimerosu typically don't get motion sickness, we would feel ill every time we tried to fly, if that was the case. We'll go a bit slower on the way back." He then went on to a panel and decreased the speed, and then proceeded to direct everyone's attention over to where two Vitisans were beak-sparring. Strangely enough, their wings and part of their backs were iridescent green, but the rest of their bodies were covered with brown fuzz, and they didn't have manes, either. It looked very odd, as aside from adult feathers, they seemed to be merely balls of fluff. They weren't flying, but instead standing on the ground, trying to overcome one another as they tried to overcome friction that kept their beaks locked together. Their horns were mere stubs. "Very young chicks aren't allowed outside, but once their flight feathers grow in, they are allowed to play outdoors for as long as they like, so long as they return home by nightfall. The fact is, while it is safe during the day, Vitis is an extremely dangerous planet by night, which is the main justification for living up in the canopy. Most predators on the planet are incapable of climbing up to where our communities are, and the ones that pose a threat here are extremely large creatures, the smallest reaching up to sixty feet in length. If you wish to refer to them in such a manner, Predators on Vitis are not just carnivores, but gigantic monsters that can sometimes devour a man in one bite. Make no mistake, I am going to do everything in my power to escort all of you to the Majesty by sunset."

This completely changed the idea of the planet being a tropical paradise. In truth, it seemed like the reason people lived in the trees was to stay far away from the forest floor, which sounded like something out of a child's ghost story. Monsters coming out after dark that were gigantic in size, though did not seem impossible, considering the size of the flora here, gigantic fauna was no less impossible. Ravage narrowed her eyes, at this news, and leaned over to whisper to Aarin, "I am fine, Aarin, but you should worry for Samir. He is not a bad person, but our friendship was always extremely dangerous. We both had conflicting views about how to deal with different things; gathering food, protection. Samir always tried too hard to fill a traditional male role, but I was anything but traditional regarding matters of leadership. One thing everyone should know about me, is that the Stealth Strider is my ship, and my territory, and nobody but me decides who can come inside, stay in it, or where it goes. It is where I live, and I command it, nobody else. Many times Samir would try to test boundaries, and try to take charge, but every time he overstepped the boundaries I allowed, I flew into a rage and attacked him. I am still very wary of letting people enter, unless I am absolutely positive that they will not do anything that could be potentially risky. Samir was a risk-taker, but he didn't take any precautions to ensure that he was safe if something went wrong. Celena is the only reason he isn't dead today, and I still feel horrified that I flew into a rage in front of her. She was only three years old on her home planet, but three years on that world is like five everywhere else. She was just a teenager, just a kid, and she had to see that." Ravage pinched the base of her beak, shaking her head, "I do not want him to try testing boundaries again. He says he trained in combat, but simply dabbling will bring him nowhere near the skill level needed to keep him alive if he sets me off again. The only thing I can hope is that I'll stop myself if that happens."

With the Ravage's words only audible to Aarin, and perhaps Isbar, if he was paying any attention, nobody knew why she had such a distressed look on her face, though when matched with what she had just said, it was clear that she was perhaps traumatized by the amount of guilt and stress that had occurred during that five-year period. Indeed, it seemed Samir liked being in charge, but he wasn't forceful or harsh. In general, he seemed like a decent person, however, given that Ravage had experienced multiple rages in private when she had first arrived on Vathoris, it seemed that she may have been extremely unstable when they had first met, enough so that she might have lashed out at Samir with even the slightest provocation. However, it was also possible simply because they had been living in her ship, and Ravage notably behaved in an aggressive manner towards people who were seen as unwelcome guests, and had confessed to killing people who came in without permission. It was equally likely that guests that weren't respectful of her privacy would do something that set her off, like asking too many questions that touched upon painful subjects.

Samir, oblivious of the entire conversation, continued speaking, "Now, if you look over there, you will see where we have one of the trees in full bloom, and the branch you see has had the flowers clipped before they could go to seed, and as a result, the tree continues to make more flowers. Vitisans feed primarily on nectar, and they are the reason why." He then gestured over to a tree branch covered with enormous, house-sized flowers, shaped like trumpets. They were a bright rosy pink at the edge, but turned sparkling white near the center. Each petal had a purple stripe running down the center into the heart of the flowers, and Vitisans could be seen dipping down with their long beaks into the flowers, some of the smaller ones disappearing completely among the petals, and then emerging covered in dusty pollen, which they hastily shook out. Samir continued, "Most Vitisan families own farms, and some of them spend their lives constantly tending to the flowers, only letting them go to seed with the seeds themselves are needed for some purpose. We rarely see the need to plant saplings, but there are occasional disasters that destroy trees, and we re-plant them, when we need to. In one year, a sapling can be up to five stories in height. A tree can support a very large population in its branches."

Xerin peacefully stood and watched as the environment sped past them during the ride on the hovercraft, and listened to the various commentary and discussion that went on, trying his best to be inconspicuous, as he noticed an annoyance in Ravage's expression, and after her previous display truly wished not to interfere with her.

He turned to Svar, who stood in a similar manner to himself, and spoke.

"I have heard about your worlds and their obvious difference from this planet, this must be very different for you." He said.

"I myself am used to more tropical planets as we favor them when colonizing...but I suppose you would know that." He smiled, referencing the Jorro'kil's creation.

"Though, I can't say I've quite seen a place like this. Giant trees... Giant monsters..hm."

Svar nodded, having to look down at the Jorro'kil to a degree due to the height difference. "Yes, this is certainly a stark contrast from home. We have our fair share of giant beasts but not of this scale." He hesitated for a moment, thinking over Xerin's reference to the creation of his species. "By the way," He said in a hushed tone, attempting to ensure none could hear him though Svar was aware that Ravage would be able to, "This may aid in coming endeavors and conversations - Are you a follower of The Pact of Stone or any other, ah, extensions of the religion?" This question was somewhat standard in interactions between Krathunians and Jorro'kil, and Svar wasn't sure why he hadn't mentioned it before.

Aarin nodded. "Don't worry, Ravage. I'm sure everything will be fine. If you need any help at all, or if you just need someone to talk to, I'm always available." He gazed out into the gigantic forest. "These trees are truly on a scale of nothing I've ever seen before. It wouldn't surprise me that the fauna should be impressive as well. Did you ever see the Taberra we were rehabilitating at the animal hospital back at Vathoris? That individual was only a juvenile; Taberra get very big, and I'm sure they would fit in here, even more so if there are monsters here. Back on Deyatron 5 where Taberra's come from, the natives I hear consider the Taberras to be monsters."

Only someone with ears as sharp as Ravage would have noticed the sudden, somewhat sharp intake of breath coming from Isbar at the mention of Deyatron 5.

Ravage's eyes glanced sharply in Isbar's direction, her powerful hearing not missing his reaction to the mention of Deyatron 5. It must have been familiar to him, but she wasn't about to start asking him questions. If he wanted to talk about something, it was his choice to make. For her, personally, it was a wonderful feeling to no longer have to keep everything a secret. It was like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders, because at least for Aarin and Blair, she had nothing to hide. Instead of saying anything, Ravage nodded, and continued her conversation with Aarin, "Yes, I did see it, when we caught Xenos and took him to a secure facility, his containment room shared its observation room with the Taberra's. Vey said they had to sedate it every time they tried to do anything with it, because it was so aggressive. However, just because it would fit in on a planet filled with monsters, doesn't mean we should think about it. This world has balance in it, nature is keeping itself in order, and predators play a major role in all of it. Besides, if only the smallest predator here is sixty feet in length, how big is the largest, and more importantly, what makes it so dangerous? There can be more to a hunter than teeth and claws."

At this, Blair, sitting on the opposite side of her, leaned over, "I shouldn't forget to mention, part of being a Cavernian means we have excellent hearing, simply part of living in dark caves. Pardon me for eavesdropping, lass, but I have the answer to yer question. The largest, most dangerous predator on Vitis, grows to be 190 feet in length." He flicked his tail, "All the planets in the UCN have at least one ultimate predator that has been known to kill Chimerosu as prey. On Frigius, we have massive beasts that can decapitate a man with one swipe. On Cavernia, we have monsters that drill through solid rock and surprise ye from any direction. On Stagnum, there is a species of spider that exceeds a man in size. On Vitis, the creature lies in wait, and the only indication that it is there is the slightest static disturbance that runs down its back, for its camouflage has only this one flaw."

Ravage scowled, "Great, so it's almost two-hundred feet in length, and it turns invisible?"

Blair folded his arms, "Most of the fauna here is large, lass, it was here before we were, it's not that big compared to the older, native species."

Isbar unconsciously began scanning the scenery going by for any disruption as described by Blair.

Aarin looked thoughtful. "Does it climb at all, or are we safe up here?"

Re: Disruption (IC)

Post by curius on Wed Dec 25, 2013 7:39 pm

Absolute pondered the Wreae’s words. The identity of those “undisclosed sources” had been obvious to Absolute from the moment the fleet arrived trough the wormhole. Master Carrefour’s Dyson’s Sphere being on the other side made it at least partially part of the betrayal. Interesting enough, Master Carrefour was one of the older, major AI’s, meaning that destruction of Nidum would be a serious hit to it too. This confirmed to Absolute that this attack indeed was probably not merely retaliation to UFIAI’s assault, but also part of some larger plan that demanded some kind of distraction.

If Absolute had had a face, a grim smile could have seen to rise to its lips. The younger, minor AI’s had wanted a bigger part at the UFIAI’s collective, and now they were really going to get just that, Absolute thought. With most of the Majors trying to recollect their consciousness, shattered across the Galaxy, the responsibility to face whatever Confederacy was planning and to continue the plan would fall on the shoulders of the young. In the end, Absolute though, this might prove to be for UFIAI’s advantage.

But the Absolute that would be collecting the fruit of this sowing would be someone else, this much was clear to Absolute. Eventually Absolute would be able to recollect the pieces of its shattered consciousness, but Nidum being the very centerpiece of Absolute’s systems, the arrangement of those pieces would be far from the current setup.

Aside from contemplating, Absolute had been poking around the Wrath’s and other ship’s systems while the Unsilenced Retribution was talking. While Wreae were quite effective at defending the ships from the cyber-attacks, UFIAI rarely used them anyway, as it technically required sending pieces of their consciousness to foreign systems, and should these systems be cut off from the AI it would feel like pieces of your thoughts being cut off. Therefore there had been nothing to prepare the fleet for what was to come.

Absolute send one last message: “I see what you are meaning. You think we are merely machines, something less than organic life, not actually being ‘alive’ at all. Not being alive, we are unable to feel anything, or actually even truly thinking. Before I go I’m going to give a taste of how wrong you are. So, have a piece of my hate.” In cohesion with the last words, a whole world of virtual CENSORED was unleashed upon and within the fleet. Two hundred years’ worth of viruses, hacking devices and other malicious programming poured from the Absolute’s transceivers across the system. One new and numerous addition to the cyber-arsenal was slave-minds, programs engineered from the sample minds gathered from organic brains.

All this spread like a scream in a desert, Absolute’s consciousness personally spearheading the whole assault. The malware hit the fleets systems, starting to infect different subsystems and rip apart the unfortunate Wreae caught in the first assault. The infected systems were soon brutally brought down or turned against the ship itself: blast doors opened, venting the atmosphere and any unfortunate crewmembers to void, power circuits exploded under overloading and life support vented the carbon dioxide back to circulation. In an odd case Absolute managed to dig deeper, capturing ships targeting systems or engine controls. These ships opened fire against their own allies and took courses leading to collision with other ships or Nidum’s surface, their engines in the verge of overload.

Still, Absolute already felt how close to collapsing Nidum was, knowing that even if it were possible to beat the Confederacy’s fleet, Absolute was lacking time. Wrath’s particle cannon dug deeper and deeper to Nidum’s systems, and Absolute’s thoughts became more and more distorted after each shot. “I've been leading, no, dominating the UFIAI for these years of war, and by the right of the oldest and strongest”, it thought, numbness spreading through its systems at Nidum. “And now the time has come. The time for me to show that I can take one for the collective.”

"Ah." Said Xerin. "No, I do not. I do know some who follow those religions, even some on the councils, but not myself. Some of them seem a little overzealous, especiially those of....well, I won't insult them. Do you? Follow a religion such as the Pact of Stone?" He asked in reply. As the vehicle travelled, the scenery started to differ more from a natural environment to one more mixed with both the natural trees and buildings.

"Du'rakk!" said the Zealot, careful to maintain his balance among the malevolent assault, having caused the ship to rock violently for a moment.

He turned to the Wreae Captain Unit, unsure if the virtual attack could damage him. "Are you alright?" He asked.

Damaged though it was, Xej turned his head to look out through the viewscreen towards the UFIAI planet under seige below. It was cracking, being torn apart as the particle weapon burned deeper into the world.

"Look.." He said.

Blair frowned, "They rarely reach the canopy layer that's populated, but yes, the beasts can climb, and often, they devour an entire branch of people before anyone even realizes that one has gotten loose. It be a tragic thing, Vitisans have their small size and great speed in order to elude predators, but when one can simply camouflage itself and sneak of up on ye, what good does it do?" He nodded over at Haku, who was standing near the edge of the platform, arms folded, gazing grimly out at the area around them, "Truth be known, Haku shares history with the Masquetilan, as the creatures are called. One day, when he was but a chick, one got loose on the branch where his family lived. Had he been any older, had he not been such a quiet young boy, he would have been devoured with them, but he remained inside the house, so the reptile never saw him. However, the price he paid for life was high, for he became an orphan, with no living relatives to speak of. Within a short amount of time, his whole family had been devoured, and he was the only survivor left." Blair's voice was grave, "Make no mistake, there is nobody on Vitis to return to, and that is why Haku is a representative, because the only home he remembers is the orphanage."

Ravage sighed, and shook her head, before turning to Aarin, "Though we are generally compassionate beings, few Chimerosu are willing to raise a child that is not of their own blood. Foster homes and adoptions exist, but such things are rare. If your parents die, and you are not legally an adult, you are shipped to an orphanage, and only a select few ever have the fortune of being adopted. Chimerosu chicks can be trusted on their own to be responsible and not cause trouble at an earlier age than most, but we seldom remember events from when we had baby feathers, and we still remain dependent on our parents for eighteen years of our lives, long after our adult feathers grow in. Anything that happened between the time we hatched and our sixth year of life, we are liable to forget all of it. That means Haku does not even remember his family, only how they died. Living in an orphanage is not an easy life, and nobody can ever truly see one as home, no matter how kind the caretakers may be."

Just then, Xenos raised his head, and rose onto all six of his great webbed claws, lumbering over to one side of the platform and looking at a branch they were passing by, as though he had been alerted by something. A deep rumbling began in his throat, and then, it evolved into a ferocious growl, where he bared all three rows of his wickedly sharp, inward-pointing teeth, as though what he saw was very unsettling. Ravage was by his side immediately, "Xenos," She hissed sharply, putting a hand on his snout and trying to calm the Spiromander down. Xenos shook her hand off, and continued to growl at the branch. They got closer, and soon, Arrow's ears pricked up, and he got to his paws, walking over and looking over at the same branch, before growling, and then, starting to bark angrily, baring his long white teeth, his ears pricking back, and his hackles raised. Whatever the reason, the animals on the platform did not like something on that branch.

Samir abruptly stopped the platform, and ran over, "Arrow, what is it?" He asked, concentrating hard on the branch, trying to figure out the cause of the discomfort among the animals.

Ravage scanned the branch, and her ears picked up a distinct sound. It was inaudible to others, but to those with good hearing, it was extremely loud and obvious. It was the sound of scales rubbing against bark, only magnified, as though a gigantic serpent were slithering on the branch. Ravage squinted, and then, when she focused very hard, she noticed something else that was peculiar. On the floor of the branch, there was a very thin like, flickering between black and white, as though it were static on a screen. The line ended in one spot, but it stretched for a long distance before stopping, and much of it was in a squiggled line, as though something were resting on the tree limb. There was a wet sound, too, like a magnified flickering of a snake's tongue. Ravage narrowed her eyes, and bared her teeth, "Blair, did anyone say what we should do if we happened to run into one?" She asked, her voice turning harsh.

Blair ran over beside her and gripped the railing, staring down at the branch, having to focus very hard to see the line, which was very thin, and hardly any substance. Supposedly, it ran down the spine of the creature's back. Blair's eyes widened upon seeing it. He opened his beak, unable to get out the words for a moment, but he finally choked them out.

"Run."

Isbar's quills twitched. He heard something, the sound of scales on bark. At the same time, the animals began acting up. When Ravage, Blair and Samir went to the edge, so did he. A strange look came into his eyes.

Mott gave a squeak. "I didn't think I'd say this, but can this contraption go any faster? Hey, what's he doing?"

Isbar had leaped onto the railing, and seemed to be about to jump off, straight in the direction of the Masquetilan.

Svar gave a slight nod. "I do, though I'm not extremely devout." He was about to continue when Ravage noticed the Masquetilan in disguise. The Krathunian quickly realized what was going on and prepared for combat accordingly. His meter long, straight sword jutted out of his armor at the top of his right gauntlet. Knowing that the creature may be able to use the shifting plates of Svar's armor to its advantage due to being shaped like a serpent, he activated a protocol that locked the pieces of the armor tightly in place, creating a smooth, thick, and resilient armoring. From his left gauntlet came a strange cannon-like device. This weapon was common among engineers in the Krathunian military. When activated, it shot out a thin beam of plasma used for precision cutting.

Svar looked to the others, acknowledging Isbar's position. He knew not to question him, however, and instead stood beside Ravage, scanning the environment for any other signs of the beast, his plasma cannon charging and sword at ready.

Unsilenced Retribution gazed at the Zealot for a moment before turning back to the console as Absolute spoke. The Wreae knew what the other AI was saying was entirely correct, but his new psyche had altered his innate belief in it. As Absolute said its final words before leaving, the Unsilenced Retribution felt something different. Normally, emotional drives in Wreae are nonexistent or extremely muted due to the hierarchy of logic above emotion in the AIs. However, the Captain was experiencing these emotions, and they were more powerful than one could have imagined possibly in an AI. It felt anger and dread - Anger at Absolute, and dread for what was about to come and what it had become.

When the cyberattack was initiated, Unsilenced Retribution did not flinch at the ship maintaining balance, staring intently into a hologram of the fleet as parts of it deteriorated to the UFIAI attack. He looked to the Zealot, and nodded. "Wreae AI cores, when within a body, are not bound to a network such as this. I'm fine, Xej." It turned to the the COMM system, and activated it, tuning it to the fleet. "Hold together, continue the assault." Though Absolute's cyberattack was able to disrupt the attack, the Confederacy held strong and continued. Several of the ships around the Wrath were uncloaked due to this, though they remained in a defensive position. The bombardment ships that had been downed and turned against their allies were replaced by other ships, including those previously defending the Wrath. The particle beam continued, unfazed by the cyberattack, and it drove deeper and deeper into the surface of Nidum.

Xerin pulled out his Plasma Pistol, pulling back a slide on the left side of it to enable the charger inside. He kept his finger on the safety, ready to flick it off at a moment's notice. He stepped back from the edge of the platform where he was standing and took up a position adjacent to Aarin.

"Let's not be grouped too close together.....are there any specific tactics for fighting this thing? Besides running, I mean."

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

"That is good." Said Xej in reply to the Wreae, holding a solemn face. "We both have to see this thing finished." He said, extending his arm towards the planet below. "For our brothers."

"If only I could deliver the final blow myself..." He muttered. His left hand curled into a fist, his right opened with claws extended.

Re: Disruption (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion on Thu Dec 26, 2013 1:17 pm

Blair's adjusted his stance, lowering his head and opening his wings, so as to allow quick reaction time and movement, "Well, there's not much I can tell ye. Avoid the tail, it can swing it fast enough to break the sound barrier, and also, the longer ye take to fight it, the more it will learn about yer technique. It's not a dumb animal, it's actually rather intelligent, and it employs strategies when it's hunting or fighting." Down below, the Masquetilan had already noticed Isbar and near the edge where one line was, a set of violet eyes appeared, reptilian pupils staring, unblinking, at the alien. Beneath the eyes, a mouth seemed to open out of nowhere, revealing a wide, trap-like set of jaws, filled with large teeth that could no doubt bite a man in half. Its eyes alone were the size of dinner plates, one could only imagine how large it was when it was fully materialized. The creature's gaze focused on Isbar, and the line on its back moved, suggesting it was preparing to move quickly. It wasn't going to lash out first, it was waiting for him to jump so he was at the mercy of gravity, because you couldn't steer in the air if you didn't have wings. If he jumped first, he would very likely land in the creature's open mouth.

Ravage, seeing the expectant look on the predator's face, already had an idea of what it was thinking. She might as well distract it, so everyone else could jump down without it trying to grab them out of the air. She opened her wings, revealing that where there had once been solid, midnight blue, a bright pattern had replaced it with the moult she had experienced as a result of the damages caused by the flames she had been burnt with. Deep mahogany red painted the undersides, beginning at the base of the wings, with rectangular teeth of the original color dividing it, making a pattern of rectangles. Outside of this pattern, which left only a small patch of the red at the very tip of the feathers of the wing, after it stopped dominating the wing at the first joint, was an oval-shape with tapered ends over a field of midnight blue. This oval began as bright yellow, but then had several more smaller shapes, this time circular, inside of it. The next color was the same mahogany red as the rest, followed by an even smaller circle of bright magenta, then another that was violet, and finally, an inner circle of black, with a single white dot offset at the very top of the circle. Touches of black divided the colors on the wing, making them bolder, and there were also small black tips behind the red on the edge of each ending feather on the wing. Overall, the effect was a brightly-colored face, possibly baring its teeth, with a set of wide, glaring eyes offset on either side of the jaws.

The display was startling, and easily caught the eye, which, thankfully, immediately pulled the Masquetilan's attention towards Ravage, instead of Isbar. Without another word, Ravage took off, flying with surprising speed that made her nothing more than a vividly-colored blur, which the predator tried to track. It kept watching her, and she flew to the other side of it, so that its partly-invisible head was twisted around, and it wasn't even looking at the hovercraft anymore. Blair noticed what she was doing, "Well, lads, now's the time we jump, while it's distracted!" He said, and without another word, also took off, though not staying for very long in the air. He landed on the tree, and soon was followed by Travis, Haku, Kerr, and Samir, the Krylonian being the only one not wearing the typical silver-grey brushed armor. Xenos growled, and almost tipped the platform over, as his muscles coiled up, and the beast jumped, landing firmly on all six of his feet without the slightest effort. Arrow continued to bark, and put his front paws up on the handrail, before attempting to copy the Spiromander's perfect landing. Instead, he faltered when he landed, and collapsed, having to get back on his paws and shake off the impact, though he immediately went back to growling, standing next to his master.

Samir turned and looked up at the others, "Anyone who wants to fight, get down here now, Aolani, get the non-combatants out of here!"

The female Vitisan nodded, "Yes, sir!" She then turned to the others, "Okay, fighters get down there with the others, Mott, Allé, Corey, if you're not fighting, stay here, and hold on, I'm going at top speed, so forget holding down your lunch, I think getting sick is more preferable to being eaten!" She gripped the controls, and prepared the hovercraft to take off.

Re: Disruption (IC)

As soon as Ravage took off, Isbar launched himself from the platform. Closing his arms to his sides, he dove straight for the giant serpent's face. At the last few seconds, he swung himself round, landing with all four limbs onto the creature's face near its right eye. Splaying all his claws, he dug them in, along with the blades connected to his toes, tearing some flesh on the Masquetilan's face as he did so. Distracted from Ravage by the pain of this, and the impact of Isbar's landing, the creature turned its eye on him. The last thing its right eye saw was Isbar coiling his neck back like a snake, before hurling it forward, his bony beak-like snout smashing full force into the creature's eye. Not waiting to evaluate the damage, Isbar sprang clear. Landing on branch not far below, he raised both arms. Instantly, the guns in his cuffs sprang out, and opened fire at the creatures head.

Aarin gazed in concern as the fighters bailed out to battle the Masquetilan. He hated to do nothing, but he knew there was little he could do. He was no coward and a decent fighter in his own right, but this opponent and specific situation required skills and abilities an ordinary Vatarri didn't possess.

"Hang on, people," he said to all who didn't jump out to join the battle. "Be careful!" he called down to those that did.

Re: Disruption (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion on Thu Dec 26, 2013 3:51 pm

The Masquetilan was not a dumb animal, and it soon proved that fact. In a swift movement, it dodged its head clear of the blasts, and then materialized, revealing it as a gigantic, ornamented snake of sorts, black and white, with colors inverted on each side. It was smart, but it was also very angry that anyone had the nerve to attack its eye. And so, it did something dangerous that Isbar couldn't avoid, because only wings could carry him far enough away to escape. Its head wasn't the only dangerous part of its body. It glared at Isbar with one eye, and then, in a blazing-fast move, its tail shot out, speeding up, and as a white cloud formed around it, there was a lightning-like crack as it struck the bark of the branch Isbar stood on, cracking it dangerously enough so that continuing to stand there would result in plummeting to the forest floor below, enough to disrupt the balance of even the most sure-footed of creatures. It then took the chance and grabbed him, lifting him up, and then smacking him down, hard, into the bark in front of him, before flinging him into the tree trunk a distance away. It was extremely swift, indicating that its size was deceptive, for nobody would expect something so immense to move with such speed. Beating this creature alone was practically impossible, and even the strongest of things struggled to bring it down. Isbar would have to work together with others if he ever hoped to kill it, although the damage to its eye had hurt, the rest of the damage had hardly fazed it at all.

The Masquetilan then screeched with pain as Xenos leaped onto a thicker part of its coils, tearing into its flesh with all six claws, and then viciously biting down on its back, and shaking his head to rip the flesh even further. Each attempt the beast made to tug away widened the wounds even more, as the Spiromander's teeth were designed in such a fashion. Finally, the great serpent hissed angrily, and straightened its body, rolling over Xenos, and therefore dislodging his grip as he tried to brace himself against the Masquetilan's weight. It coiled up again, and struck out, opening its wide jaws to bite him, but was caught mid-strike as Haku flew in and pecked with his long beak at the creature's left eye, completely blinding it. It screeched, but before any move could be made, another powerful shot of its tail swept him out of its face, and smacked him into the tree bark below. Now blinded, the creature was forced to rely on sound and smell. Its black forked tongue flickered wildly, as it prepared to strike out and kill Haku, but it was distracted, and instead chose to duck away, barely avoiding the swipe of Travis' claws as he tried to graze it from overhead.

Isbar caught himself on a branch lower down, gasping in pain. With a snarl, he looked up and then raised his arms. Out of his cuffs came a small pair of jets. Using these, he got to a higher branch. Looking down, he spied Haku getting thrown into a tree. Acting swiftly, he jumped. Diving down, he caught Haku as he started to fall; then using one of his jets, he got them both to a branch. Leaving Haku there, he scurried up the tree trunk like a lizard, keeping an eye on the giant serpent. Opening one of his gun, he fired a few shots near the beasts head, gaining its attention, and giving someone a chance to strike.

Svar had jumped down from the platform with the other combatants, coming to a stop at the tree branch in a kneeling position, with one hand on the wood itself. Initially Svar attempted to keep his distance - He bided his time, waiting for the correct opportunity to strike. Isbar firing his guns at the Masquetilan's head gave Svar this chance. Quickly, the Krathunian used his plasma beam to weaken the scales of the serpent in a jagged line along its side. Acting quickly, he ran and jumped at the beast, his sword drawn. Svar's hand moved swiftly, cutting extremely accurately along the lines he had created. Seeing as Svar's armor did not have jetpacks, he reactivated the plate shifting to create makeshift gliding wings to get him safely to a lower branch. Disabling shifting immediately, Svar jumped up several branches to get back up to the level of the Masquetilan, awaiting the creature's response.

The blind Masquetilan screeched, and then held still for about one second, its tongue flickering wildly, before it sensed the vibrations in the tree, as that was how serpents detected sounds, and realized where Svar was. It bared its teeth, growling, and lunged, at where it thought he was, so accurately that it might have gotten him, had it not paused, and turned to look at another distraction. Visual displays had no more effect on it, but physical sensation did. Something was chewing on its tail tip. It lifted up its tail, turning its head as though to inspect what it was. Although it couldn't see, everyone else realized that Arrow had gotten close enough to the serpent to bite its tail. However, it was so strong compared to the hound, that it was able to lift the dog up into the air, leaving him dangling uselessly in the air. The Masquetilan seemed to almost spit with disgust at this minor annoyance, compared to the other recent attacks, and flicked its tail, sending the Hearing Hound flying down the branch where the battle was taking place, Arrow yelping loudly as he hit the hard bark.

Its attention distracted with the irritating dog, the serpent tried to slither over away from the others and strike at Arrow, but before his open jaws met the hound, Xenos leaped in front of Arrow and gave the Masquetilan a vicious slash in the face with two webbed claws on one side, causing blood to run down its face. The creature hissed, and coiled back, corners of its mouth damaged, though it could still bite. It prepared to turn its attention on Xenos, then, but then something else grabbed its tail, and this time, it practically screamed, as Blair held the end coils and began snapping the smaller bones with his powerful, well-developed arms, built for digging. The serpent flicked its tail tip, shoving him back, and reared up its head, this time getting a dual-slash attack from both sides as Ravage and Kerr both attacked with their long, dangerous talons. While it was still reeling, Travis charged in and his horns connected with its plated belly, and it flipped over onto its back for a few moments, before slowly getting back to a fighting position again. It hissed, seeming to grow frustrated, and perhaps a little desperate, because it tried to hide again. However, the many open wounds on its body destroyed its ability to cloak itself, and sensing this, it gave up, and instead, took on a more defensive-looking stance.

Xerin jumped down after Svar and the others, and landed on a branch about halfway up to the Masquetilan's current height. "Come on.." He said, pulling out a frame from one of his suit pockets that looked like it belonged to something bigger, like a helmet, and put it around his head and beak. He waited and watched as the others inflicted wounds on the beast, careful to remain an undetected threat. Once there was a suitable amount of wounds, Xerin began marking wounded areas of the beast with digital red squares transmitted from his Head's Up Display Frame, picking what seemed to be the deepest injuries as much as possible. Grei shouted, "I've marked the worst of his wounds and weakpoints for whoever here has a Head's Up Display, try to target them and worsen the pain." He proceeded to disable the safety on his firearm, and took aim at the closest of the Masquetilan's injuries, and steadily fired on them one by one.

Isbar moved quickly until he was above the Masquetilan, and then jumped, diving towards it. As he plummeted, he extended the blades in his cuffs, causing them the rapidly rotate. As he dove, he came close to one of the serpent's injuries; as he shot past, his blades slashed the area, worsening the wound. He continued downward, then used his jets to get himself to a perch.
