A brief recap of events...

The Chimerosu race, previously thought to be a single, solitary species, began as an empire that controlled many planets, but in order to recover from a devastating war, many outposts and planets were abandoned for the home world and closer colonies. Soon after exiting isolation ages later, the Chimerosu variant known as the Krylonians allied with the Jorro'kil race, and was consequently destroyed by the enemy of the Jorro'kil, the Dominion, leaving only a few scattered survivors. A little over a decade later, it was discovered that some colonies, which had remained even after many citizens had begun to withdraw, had become independent from the main empire, and due to isolation, evolved into new variants. A new empire, founded by the Frigian race hailing from an arctic planet, known as the UCN, was soon founded, and an expedition on an exploration cruiser called the
Majesty was sent out in a movement to continue locating more independent colonies. Aboard this cruiser were two of the last remaining Krylonians, Ravage and Samir, and in searching abandoned outposts, they were joined by an elderly third, Horus. In addition, this ship carried representatives from other alien empires in an act of diplomacy, and they were also joined by representatives from newly-discovered races. Mira, a Silexian, joined the ranks of soldiers, a female, flightless, penguin-like variant. They also gained the mysterious Maozhuian detective, Cipher, who constantly conceals his identity, making determining what variant he is a mystery, as Maozhu contained two Chimerosu variants.

It was discovered and revealed early in the
Majesty's voyage by an energy being known as Ambigon, that a race of space-flying insects it dubbed the Arachnarche threatened empires with their metal and energy-eating biology. It was decided that the Majesty would also begin seeking out the Queen of this race, in order to end the threat peacefully.

It was later discovered, however, after the Krylonian Samir had been taken by the Arachnarche as a diplomat and representative, that a Markovan soldier by the name of Jessic, who had been demoted from a previously high rank due to poor actions, had stolen a powerful experimental weapon designed by the genius Humdar and scientist, Mott. In stealing this weapon, Jessic was caught red-handed in the act by the Vitisan representative Aolani, and Aolani was consequently murdered in attempting to stop him. Jessic followed Samir, who was traveling with the Arachnarche to meet the Queen, with the goal of murdering the alien insect's matriarch. The people aboard the
Majesty decided to place their original mission on hold, in a desperate attempt to go and protect the Arachnarche Queen from Jessic's actions...

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

It was a sad business, taking care of Aoloni, but very few had time to think about it. The Majesty was quickly getting under way to follow the Arachnarche, desperate to stop the murderous plans of Jessic. Mott put forward the idea that it might be a good idea to send a signal ahead to alert the Arachnarche, in the least, that they were coming; after having analyzed the sounds they had made, Mott had designed a recording that he hoped would be interpreted by the Arachnarche as a peaceful signal.

Tevri took little interest in what was going on around him. His thoughts kept coming back to the subject of Jessic; what was to be done? Kill him outright? It seemed better to Tevri that Jessic should be taken back to Markova and tried first, but was that safe? Tevri had heard rumors that criminals were increasingly getting away with their crimes. And then Tevri couldn’t help feeling responsible. After all, strictly speaking, Jessic had been under his own authority, and yet Tevri hadn’t been able to stop this.

Tevri started a little when he realized Aarin was standing behind him. “It’s not your fault, Tevri,” said Aarin, having guessed his thoughts.

Tevri hung his head. “I was responsible for him, though,” he said. “I was his superior. And a good leader is supposed to be responsible for the conduct of those he commands, or at least, that’s what my father always told me.”

Aarin smiled. “Your father is a good and wise man. But you needn’t flagellate yourself, Tevri. You are a responsible person. I’ve seen that for myself. You ARE taking responsibility for Jessic, just like a good leader should, by helping to bring him to justice.”

Tevri sighed a little, and nodded. “I suppose,” he said. “But I’m afraid, Aarin. I’m not sure I have the courage to . . . to . . . well, to do what might have to be done. I keep hoping we can capture him alive without having to, well . . .” Tevri fell silent.

Aarin patted Tevri’s shoulder. “I know,” said Aarin. “I hope we don’t have to kill him, either.” Here, Aarin’s face became serious again. “Believe me, it doesn’t take courage to kill.”

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Thu Jan 01, 2015 1:29 am

Ravage winced at Aarin's statement regarding killing, and looked at Aolani's corpse, before sighing, and looking at Tevri and the Vatarri, "Regardless of what it takes to kill, even if I did not know Aolani well, she was too sweet a person to deserve this. There is saliva on her feathers; Jessic not only killed her, but spat on her, as though to punish her for trying to stop him." She focused her gaze on Tevri, "You all know that I have stained my hands before. The more one does so, the more tempted they are to do it again. No matter how well either of you may think of me, I think it would be best if I did not become involved in tracking Jessic down."

As she spoke, a harsh coldness crept into her gaze, similar to the look she had in them before she had crashed into Aarin's ship, and become a guest of the Prince of Vathoris. "If you asked me to go, I would not be able to promise you that I would have the restraint to spare him. We tried to be lenient with Jessic before, but his behavior persisted, and he showed himself repeatedly to be a loose cannon from the very beginning. He made no effort in the slightest to atone for his poor actions, and our act of mercy has ended with a friend's death, and the possible assassination of the sole matriarch of an entire race."

She then turned her gaze to Aarin, "You know because of the ceremony that we wished for you to partake in, that I am trying to atone for my own past actions. You also know that I have something to protect. There is Cipher, and the Chimerosu race as a whole. My people were wiped out by the Dominion, but because Samir and Horus were found, there is still hope that there are other Krylonians somewhere in the galaxy that survived." She placed emphasis on the last statement, "My people may not be extinct, and the UCN has given me hope that someday, we won't be helpless victims anymore to be cut up and divided among conquerors."

She continued, "I used to wish I would die, and I made everyone else I met suffer. I used to consider myself a hopeless cause, and didn't care if what I did ruined the life of someone else. I showed no mercy to them. Because you never gave up on me, even when I kept on trying to persuade you and Prince Vey to leave me as I was, not to trust me, I am a better person now than I was in the past. I remember what it is like now, to truly love and care for the people around me. I remember, also, what it was like to have those things torn away." She clenched her hands into fists, "Jessic took a life, and I am no less guilty of murder than he is. I have taken perhaps far more lives than he has, but I know that nothing seems to truly justify the taking of a life. Still, I have crossed that barrier that is said to exist that separates those who have killed from those who have not, and it is true, what they say, that you can not return from it."

She looked back at Tevri, "I could tell you with certainty, that if I were to see Jessic, I would surely kill him, and in the most brutal fashion possible. It is for that reason that until this matter is resolved, I am going to travel away from here, and return with the young alien that I have said that I will care for, in exchange for his help. I am the only person who knows where the Werean's empire resides, and they would not take kindly to an entire so-called 'inferior' race knowing where they are. When I return, we may have an ally that can assist in bringing down the Liirlith, whatever their intentions are. I would caution you, however, that their ways are strange to most, and difficult to understand. This individual has proven himself to be unpredictable and eccentric, even by his own kind's standards."

It was with this that Travis walked up, visibly grieving, but seeming amazed as well, "You mean you ain't comin' to catch 'em with us? I would'a thought you'd leap at that chance, for what 'e did." He said, his accent thicker than usual, perhaps the grammar slipping because of the shock.

Ravage turned to Travis, "If Tevri is to handle the situation, then I cannot become involved. I know myself enough to say that." She gave a regretful look at Aolani's corpse, "Travis, for now, you should focus on preparing Aolani's body to be returned to her family. Mott will have to move to a different room. I know this is not easy for you, it is not easy for any of us. However, if you are the leader of this operation, and you fall apart, then who can we depend on?" Her beak formed a firm, hard line, "I am entrusting my friends to you, and what you are about to do is dangerous. I can tell that you have never faced something like this before, but no amount of training can prepare you for it. You can only learn through experience."

She placed her hands on the Frigian's shoulders, despite his incredible height, "If you and Tevri are both going to be leaders in the future, consider this your first real test to determine how much you are prepared for it. If the Arachnarche are attacked by Jessic, they may swarm and attack the soldiers in the Majesty, and I can tell that none of them have seen a true battle. You will both have to lead, knowing that people might die." Her eyes narrowed as her grip tightened, and even though her hands were on metallic shoulder pads, Travis flinched as though he could feel her fingers through the armor, almost as though it hurt. "Protect your men with the orders you give. If anyone dies, it is the weight of their life that rests on your shoulders. Guard the representatives from the alien empires as though your own life depends on it, because what you do could affect the entire UCN forever. It doesn't matter if they are willing to lay down their lives. Their people might not see it that way."

She then took her hands from Travis' shoulders, and it seemed that there was, indeed, just the very faintest indentations left by her hands, although it was barely there. Ravage turned, and walked out of the room, going to where Cipher was waiting. "Cipher, we are going to go somewhere. I need you to come with me to the Stealth Strider. Get anything you brought with you from Maozhu that you do not want to lose." She told him.

Travis looked after the doorway, and then at Aolani's body, "I know that I'm the leader of this expedition, but I never expected that this would end with a murder." He said, making visible effort not to cry, as though taking heed to Ravage's words, despite the statement. He stared at the body, "Is all of the galaxy like this? Is there constantly places where people 'ave been unjustly killed like this? I know the plans we originally had didn't turn out right, but was I really just that oblivious?" He shook his head, "Perhaps I ain't meant to be a leader, and yet she's asked me to protect you, even if you would risk your lives for this." He said, looking at those gathered in the room. "I really don't know..." He said, truly looking lost.

“The galaxy can be a dark place,” said Aarin, “but we mustn’t allow the darkness to blind to the good that exists there as well, for where there’s life there’s always hope.” The Vatarri gave Travis’ arm a squeeze and smiled.

“I know you can do what is required. I know both of you can,” he added, glancing at Tevri.  “Believe me, I can recognize a good leader when I see one. I’ve lived my life in the shadow of one. And I know you have what it takes.”

Aarin smiled at them, Travis and Tevri both. But even as he did so, his mind went to Ravage. She was still thinking of the Liirlith. Aarin couldn’t help but wish that she would let it go. Somehow, when he thought about her intent to try to track them down, he felt afraid for her. He couldn’t help but think that she was running into greater danger than she realized, that she was potentially challenging something that she didn’t quite understand.

Darkness seemed to swell up from nowhere. The faces around him disappeared. Everything was black.  Or it was at first. There was a blinding red spotlight shining in his face, with a flame burning near its source. As he squinted, it seemed that the flame and the spotlight together formed a pair of eyes, gazing malevolently at him.

Aarin tried to step back, but couldn’t, the eyes moved towards. Breathing grew difficult. Then suddenly, the eyes went out. All was dark again. Or was it? Now a slow light like daylight seemed to be seeping in from somewhere. Was that the sound of music? Someone took his hand.

Aarin, said a voice.

“Aarin! Are you all right?”

Aarin blinked. He was back where he was before, and everyone was staring at him. He looked at Tevri (the one who had spoken) in confusion.

“What just happened?” he asked.

“You zoned out for minute,” said Mott. "It looked like you were looking at something else far away."

Aarin blinked. What had he just seen? Aarin looked at the others, took a breath, and smiled. “I’m fine,” he said to them. “We’d best get with it. No time to waste.” Whatever it was that he had seen, interpretation would have to wait. Right now, there was work to be done.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Sun Jan 04, 2015 12:33 am

Ravage and Cipher entered the airlock where the Stealth Strider was kept, Ravage walking at a swift pace that forced Cipher, who had shorter legs, to practically run after her, before finally using a few small twitches of his wings to propel himself. It was amazing that anyone would have so much space between their footsteps that it seemed as though they were bounding, rather than walking, but if it were possible, Ravage had somehow achieved it. The spiromander Xenos, the ever-faithful companion who loyally did whatever his master asked of him, raised his head from where he had been lying down, watching as Ravage opened the hatch to her ship. The hearing hound Arrow had also been waiting for Ravage in the airlock, but had warily kept a safe distance away from the massive amphibious predator. It only took one look from Ravage to tell Xenos to rise and board the spaceship, somehow already aware that the group was about to travel away from the Majesty for what could only be interpreted as a long time.

Arrow, who had clung closely to Ravage ever since his master Samir had displayed weakness that suggested he was an unfit master who would betray the dog for his own safety, also rose to enter the ship. As he stepped onto the ramp that dropped down, however, Xenos growled at the hound, and knocked him off with a single bat of his long, newt-like tail. Arrow landed roughly on his back, yelping with surprise, before rolling over to get back on his paws. The dog turned around and snarled at Xenos, and the spiromander hissed back, splaying out his webbed claws in a threatening posture. Arrow had no hope of challenging him, and it was evident that Xenos did not intend to let Arrow pass. He intended to make sure that the hearing hound remained on the Majesty, and that he would acknowledge that Ravage only permitted and tolerated the dog in her presence as a temporary measure. She was not obligated to take care of him, as she was with Rune or Xenos himself.

After a few more moments in the standoff, Arrow backed down, and dejected, turned around and walked slowly away. Xenos did not stop blocking the entrance to the Stealth Strider until the hearing hound had completely disappeared from sight; only then did he enter the ship and allow Ravage and Rune access. Once the hatch was closed behind them, Rune removed his mask, revealing the exceedingly rare combination of Thundarian and Pavolite features. “Xenos is a smart animal, although I feel that referring to him as nothing more than a beast is practically derogatory. Ravage, you have not yet said where we are going. Is it really so important that we must leave the Majesty?” He asked.

She didn’t respond until she had led him through the ship’s airlock compartment and into its main quarters, where she proceeded to slump down in a chair with numerous claw marks on it. “Rune, I didn’t want you to see, you are still a flightling, and therefore a minor, but I suppose since we are in the ship already, I might as well tell you.” She leaned forward to look at him intensely, “You are already aware that Aolani volunteered to watch Jessic to make sure he didn’t do anything. It seems that our fears did nothing to prepare us for what actually happened.” She scratched the base of a horn uneasily, and looked past him, unwilling to meet his eyes, before returning her gaze to him. “Aolani, that Vitisan who was with us on Maozhu, has been murdered.” She said.

Rune sat as still as a stone statue for several moments, before taking a deep, yet somehow uneasy breath, “I knew I smelled blood in that room. What you were blocking from my sight was her body, wasn’t it?” He asked, although he already knew that was the answer. He took another deep breath, “I helped you fight off the Liirlith, didn’t I? Why would you bar me from scenes of violence, when I have already killed, also?” He asked her.

Ravage looked at Xenos, who was curling up on a thick square of fabric on one side of the room, having been designated as his spot next to one wall. She was quiet for a bit longer, before responding, “You have seen unjust death before, and you have killed alien people, that’s true…” She drifted off, before finding the words again, “…An execution based on law, however…is different from butchering.” She finished, turning to look back at him, “Jessic killed Aolani because she caught him committing a crime. She would have attacked him as another person, as a criminal. Jessic, however, fought back, and when he killed her, he did so as though she were a dumb animal not worth his time or respect. That is what I felt when I saw her body.”

She leaned forward, gazing intently into her adoptive son’s eyes, “There are people in the galaxy, Rune, who will view other alien races just as they would other people of their own kind. Those people will be kind to you, and treat you as an equal, they treat you with respect.” Her eyes narrowed, “While it may be impossible to overlook certain differences, those who treat others as equals, at least try to surpass those physical differences.” She shook her head, and looked at her hands, “There are also those, that focus so much on the differences, that they cannot see other races as equals, nor do they even try. As is the selfish nature of so many intelligent beings, or even primitive beasts, they view other races as inferior to themselves. They do not care what means they achieve their goal by, just as how Jessic would rather take the easy path, kill the queen, and therefore eliminate the Arachnarche swarms. Jessic is a killer, you can see it in his eyes, though I never even thought about the fact that he had such a look in them.”

She looked back up at Rune, “People who do not attempt to find common ground are perhaps the main cause for so much strife in this galaxy we live in. They attempt to suppress so-called inferior races, it does not matter how. They could do it peacefully, as domination through trade, or they could be hateful, war-mongering people who invade neutral or peaceful worlds, and then force the natives to be their slaves, if they don’t outright kill them all in an act of genocide. They will sometimes use an amount of force or take measures that would have been seen as outrageous cruelty if directed towards their own kind. It is easy to forgive, though, as far as I can tell.” She laughed bitterly, finding no humor in the statement, “It isn’t so severe if you kill someone, when they don’t have the same face as you.”

Rune tilted his head, “Now, how much of this have you seen?” He asked.

Ravage looked at him, “You’ve heard this rant before. I saw Karthla invade my home world. I saw my neighbors warped by the virus that caused them to transform into the invaders themselves. I saw my people killed in horrible ways, and was helpless to stop it.” Her gaze turned brutal, “I have ever since, harbored such a deep loathing for that race, and their leader, as well. I try to find common ground, but as horrible as this may sound, I sometimes just feel like some races aren’t worth the effort. They will never change, or choose a peaceful path. They are the races that hurt innocent people, or attack without reason or warning. When you treat them with kindness, they aren’t willing to meet you half-way. They use you like a tool, or they expect you to willingly prostrate yourself on the ground for them, like a slave who permits them to chain you to the ground, when you know you don’t have the power to escape it.”

Rune returned her gaze, despite the horrible look that was in her eyes, “What will you do, then, if you are so scared of what Karthla might do, or even what the Liirlith might do? Can you do anything against them, if you are dead? Will you charge into battle and throw away your life like that? You do not yet know what the Liirlith are doing, and if they have orchestrated such complex and neat events that go according to their plans, exactly as they wished, then they might easily manipulate you and lure you into a trap.” He said.

Ravage tilted her head, “I know that I can no longer charge recklessly into any fight.” She said. She reached over to her right arm, which had been bandaged after it had been bitten by a wild dog, and tore off the protective padding, revealing that the wound had already been repaired, no trace remaining aside from slightly shorter feathers that had not completely grown in yet. “If the wound is minor, I can probably be fully healed by the next day, regardless of how large in appearance, or painful it is. A larger wound, several days to even a week, perhaps. Certain injuries that never threatened my life before, however, may now kill me. My healing power is no longer an asset in battle that I can depend upon. I can no longer rapidly heal during the fight and keep going. I have to retreat and hope that I recover fast enough to avoid being tracked down. I do not know what my new limits are, but I know that they are there.”

Rune clenched his gloved hands into fists, “So why are you still so insistent on going after these Liirlith? If they follow a mastermind more dangerous than themselves, if they even managed to invade your home and somehow get past your senses? Did you not also say that their venom was lethal and could potentially kill within seconds?” He asked, “These are not random soldiers, and though I have no knowledge of what alien warfare is capable of, they are extremely dangerous, perhaps not what you have seen before.” He urged, “Please, reconsider this, before you do something you may regret!” It was unusual to see someone of such pure logic suddenly plead as Rune did.

Ravage stood back up, “I know I’m becoming involved in something dangerous, but that is why I am retrieving that Werean. He has a supervisor to look after him, because that is the way that his people are. He is being abused, however, and even if I never choose to go after the Liirlith, even if that child’s mind has been warped into something awful because he doesn’t know what affection is, I still feel obligated to remove him from that situation.” She walked over to the cockpit part of the ship, gazing out of the one-sided blue crystalline shield, “You were not there to see that child’s condition, and I did not want to say out loud why I would take someone with so many problems, but that is why. He was abused. I saw all the fresh scars on his face; I smelled the bruises under his skin. I heard the way his breathing in the air seemed to wheeze, as though he had been hurt so badly that it was painful to breathe.”

She began starting up the spaceship as the airlock sealed shut, and opened up to space beyond. “Rune, I do not consider myself the greatest parent, and perhaps I am even unfit to hold any sort of title. I took you however, because I can give you greater opportunity than what awaited you on that planet you left behind. Even if peace has been made between Thundarians and Pavolites, you would still be persecuted, and I could not stand for it. This Werean child is being persecuted, because of the way he was born, even though they permit him to live. I will take him from his own people, and no matter how insufficient they may see me for looking after him. If they squander his potential, I will place it back into his tentacles, and give him a life that makes him feel like a real person again.

With this, she piloted the Stealth Strider out of the airlock, and it vanished into space, as though it had never existed, speeding away to a mysterious place that nobody else could find.

As the Majesty approached the location that was considered to be the Arachnarche swarm’s nest, sensors on the ship began to pick up signals that could only be interpreted as an agitated humming. It was only slightly soothed by Mott’s signal, and everyone immediately sensed that something had gone terribly wrong. The nest came into view, an enormous set of beautifully-layered twists of smoothed metal that had been made paper-thin to cover the inner network, which seemed to span further than the naked eye, or even the ships sensors, could see. It was massive, and of its internal workings, one could only determine that it was riddled with pathways that were perfect hexagons in shape, as was in the fashion of many insects of a more dangerous nature.

As the Majesty came closer to the nest, soldier and drone variants swarmed in an angry fashion around it, not attacking, but continuing to release the angry signals. They all seemed to twitch uncomfortably and there was a hectic lack of order, as though a giant person had kicked the giant metallic hive, and thus riled the aggression of the swarm inside. They were not attacking the Majesty, just as Mott had hoped with his signal, but it seemed they were looking for some sort of target, some sort of threat to eliminate. It was scary, and in a way, heartbreaking, as upon approaching ever-closer, the corpses of several insects seemed to have been brutally murdered, and lay dead on the nest’s surface. A few seemed to condense around these bodies, as though mourning, and one or two commander variants who surveyed the chaos seemed to glare with blood-red eyes, unblinking, at the spaceship, as though questioning if they were responsible for the tragedy.

Who had killed the insects, however, was unclear, for there was a large, violent hole ripped into one of the tunnels.

It seemed that if Jessic was one intruder, he was not the only one who was after the queen. The massive hole could not have been made by the Markovan. It was far too large, requiring far too much sheer force.

The only hint that could be seen was the corroded appearance of the metal, as though it had been melted with acid.

Travis gazed through the control room window at the scene, his face grim, “That Tyrant variant, the one that murdered that swarm that came here…” He said, “I think Jessic ain’t the only one at this nest. It looks like that killing machine is ‘ere, too. Jessic is one threat, but that monster could make things even worse. The Arachnarche might be able to tell if Jessic is coming and stall ‘em, since he’s not one of their own kind. That Tyrant, though, might be going on a rampage, but it looks like the swarm is having trouble locating it. It looks like we’ll need a lot more force, like Ravage said before she left.” He said.

He turned to Blair, “Have you got enough skill with your feathers to use ‘em as weapons, yet?” He asked.

Blair nodded, “Yes, and I’ll be going after that monster. Best if we take it down before it goes and gets to the queen. There be perhaps more trouble with that mutant than with Jessic. At least the soldier has normal physical limits, and we can get the weapons away from him. Plus, I need to go pay that creature back for almost killing me.”

It was with this statement that the Majesty landed on an outstretched piece of metal on the nest, still in early stages of construction, and soldiers headed to the main airlock, equipping themselves with air tanks. As people arrived, Kerr was seen putting on a tank, “There is enough gravitational force and a safe temperature for most organic life in the nest, but it has an effect similar to a high altitude. It isn’t cold, but the air is thin!” He instructed the soldiers as they ran through the procedures. He then knocked a fist on the tanks, revealing they had been armored in a fashion to prevent them from being damaged with strong materials.

A soldier rushed past, “We’re Chimerosu, and shouldn’t we be able to handle the high altitude? We’re avian; we’re built to withstand a smaller supply of air!” He said as he grabbed his own air tank.

“Some variants of our kind are more resistant to it than others! Others have lost some of the capability. Frigians, Vitisans, and Krylonians have been proven capable in the past of safely operating with air supplies like the one outside and not needing air tanks, but every once in a burning moon you find people who have frailer lungs! Plus, others have no resistance at all; Cavernians are at the highest risk, here. The foreign diplomats don’t have wings at all! Don’t complain, just wear the tanks and consider it all a precautionary measure!”

The Stagnumian covered his face and activated the seal for the air tank, before he spoke again, his words only slightly muffled, “Bring weaponry with you as a precautionary measure, we do not know if the Aracharche will attack us or not, but if they do, we do not want to be caught unarmed. If they do attack, aim to wound and pacify. Do you hear me? Do not attempt to kill them! Remember what we were originally coming here for!”

Post by Vara Lord Sun Jan 04, 2015 10:29 pm

The crew of the Majesty, along with Aarin, Mott, Allé, Tevri, and Isbar, disembarked into the nest.

"It might be expedient to split up," suggested Aarin. "Some of us should try to locate Jessic, while the majority should tackle the Tyrant. It will take as many people as possible to take that monster down."

"I'll go after Jessic," growled Isbar. "He and I have some business."

Aarin looked at him. "I think you had best be with the group that goes after the Tyrant, Isbar. You're one of the best fighters amongst us, and that would be the best place for you."

Isbar bristled. "Look, Isbar," said Aarin a little more sternly "this isn't a vengeance run. Someone else can handle Jessic. We need you to help fight the Tyrant. Please, Isbar, that's where you're most needed." Isbar looked wrathful, but made no further argument.

"I'll go help look for Jessic," volunteered Allé.

"I'll be going, too," said Tevri. "He's my responsibility, after all."

Aarin nodded. "Who else will be going with them?"

Nazra stood on the landing platform, observing the lone ship descending. The reverse thrusters sprayed exhaust downwards as the vessel came down, landing with a soft thump. With a long hiss, the main door opened, and a female Liirlith stepped out, a female Liirlith with a fresh scar on her arm.

"Welcome back, Zara," said Nazra. He raised a skinny hand, palm upwards. "May the godsssss live again."

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Sat Jan 17, 2015 11:36 am

Deep inside the Arachnarche nest, Samir had arrived long before any sort of trouble, and was pleasantly surprised to receive a friendly greeting from the queen, who, as it turned out, was indeed capable of speech. Ever since his arrival, Samir had been engaged in conversation with her, and as the queen did not care as much for using titles, as other races did, they were on a first-name basis. Her proper title, fitting in every way, was Yincixi Hashkinra, the title 'Yincixi' meant to denote a female monarch. As it turned out, Ambigon was inaccurate in most of the names he gave for the insects, and even the term ‘Arachnarche’ was found to be silly by the Yincixi. The proper name for the aliens, as it turned out, was the Kuanqunri. Samir also learned the names of the other castes: commanders, soldiers, and drones, were actually the Yibanren, Puren, and Gongren, respectively.

After this misconception, Samir and Hashkinra proceeded to speak about the Tyrant, who the Yincixi was actually morbidly aware of.

"This 'Tyrant' you refer to has gained the name 'Qiaosiwan' among my children. He was supposed to hatch out as a regular Yangcixi; that would be a male monarch, as you call it. Our kind adapt rapidly, and each generation changes to successfully overcome the challenges that their predecessors faced. This makes us capable of quickly changing to deal with problems, but it also results in many different odd birth defects, at times. I have myself have laid eggs that hatched into Puren and Gongren hybrids, but they still made excellent workers for either profession. The Qiaosiwan is different, however, in that there is mental warping, as well. The few members among my children who successfully escaped described it to me as sadistic and murderous. It is bad blood that must be stamped out, whether its origins may be traced back to me or not. The only reason it would seek to kill me is so that it may take over the nest."

Yincixi Hashkina carefully laid out this information, but there was a sense of unease about it. In appearance, she was indeed an insect queen in every way. The largest Kuanqunri of any variant, she was like the others, a massive beetle-like creature, but with offshoots on her exoskeleton that looked almost like purple ribbons, for it seemed purple denoted the ruler in this generation. She had three pairs of horns, and a purple crown-like ridge on her head. Her 'throne' so to speak, was a sort of pit that she rested her abdomen in, with a hole at the bottom that led to the hatchery below. There were also tunnels on either side of the large domed room that led into the hatchery and nursery, which Hashkina had permitted Samir to walk through. He had first-hand witnessed the fierce-looking Yibanren, as well as several drones, taking care of amber-colored eggs, which looked almost like jewels, to his eye. The nursery, which contained juveniles (Who rapidly reached maturity, it seemed), was filled with tiny versions of the castes, with brightly-colored soft exoskeletons that denoted what they were, not having yet hardened into the typical shiny black.

The gentle nature of Hashkina, and her immediate willingness to convince her children not to attack spaceships or civilizations, made Samir rapidly decide that the Kuanqunri were in no way monsters.

When people began exiting the spaceship, there continued to be an angry, agitated humming noise from the nest, but there was not any sort of immediate attack. It seemed, however, that everyone should keep their distance from the soldiers and commanders, who glared ominously at them. It seemed peaceful negotiations might be needed to gain access to the nest, but there was not time to use any sort of formality. Soldiers charged on land and in the air for the entrance into the nest, and while some of the insects maintained self-control, a few lost all inhibition, and struck out, keeping several individuals from entering.

At this, an attack of sorts began, the soldiers sufficiently provoked, and not sure who was guilty of what crime.

"Here! Wait! Stop!" cried Aarin desperately. "We're here to help!"

Too late. All was chaos. Aarin was soon forced to hit the floor, barely missing decapitation from a soldier aiming a swipe at him.

Allé and Tevri, who had been standing a little apart, were quickly separated from the others and forced to retreat a little ways into the nest. This caught the attention and the ire of some of the soldiers, who gave chase, forcing the pair deeper inside.

Aarin rolled over and over as the soldier continued to try and get him, but was soon pinned down by one of its legs. However, Isbar quickly intervened, using a combination of his jets and natural strength to body slam the soldier hard enough to knock the soldier on its side. He quickly pulled Aarin away. Aarin cursed. Everything was going wrong. They had come to kill the Tyrant and help these creatures, but now it seemed they had no choice but to fight them or be killed.

Tevri and Allé ducked into a nook, holding their breaths. A few soldiers rushed past, and then it was quiet. Allé peered out, and beckoned Tevri out. However, no sooner were they out, then one of the soldiers returned.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Sun Jan 25, 2015 11:53 am

Right as the soldier that appeared before Tevri and Allé prepared to strike, there came a chitinous screech from further down the tunnel, from deeper in the nest. The soldier, glancing in that direction, quickly flashed the two an apologetic look, before fleeing, as though suddenly fearing a confrontation. It was then that a familiar commander, Scar-face, came around the corner, shooting anything that dared to attack the two a death glare. No, these people were not enemies, but there was a high risk of misunderstandings, since there were two intruders in the nest, as of recently. One was the Qiaosiwan, who was clearly coming to kill the Yincixi. The other intruder had come from the spaceship, but it did not appear that his plans were met with any sort of approval from the aliens. The Kuanqunri were not quite sure what this rogue agent was planning, but considering several corpses had been found with evidence tracing back to him, it was obvious that he, too, was also a threat to the Yincixi.

It was easy for the Gongren and Puren to transpose their rage onto the soldiers coming from the ship, since they had not yet worked out that they were innocent. This misunderstanding, however, could be costly to the Kuanqunri, and in a much more dramatic fashion than simply diplomatic relations. The life of the Yincixi and her successors was crucial to the survival of the nest as a whole. Nobody else of their kind was capable of reproduction, and it would additionally be even worse if the nest were to survive, but under the control of the Qiaosiwan. It was bad blood, and its warlike behavior would lead everyone to their demise. It would kill its own kind, and surely wipe out other intelligent beings in the galaxy, whom the Kuanqunri had not been aware of until recently. Then, the species would still be led to extinction, as foes gathered to destroy them for good.

The Yibanren gestured with one leg, beckoning the two to follow her, before turning and slowly walking deeper in the nest, slowing, to see if they would do as she requested. She paused, however, as a loud barking came from further outside the nest, the opposite end of the tunnel. Surprisingly, Arrow came bounding through the passage, not paying attention, perhaps having gotten past the uproar outside through sheer luck, somehow handling the thin air, though it should have hurt him at the altitude. It seemed the creature was not paying attention, as he ran right into one of Scar-face's hindmost limbs. He backpedaled, shaking his head, the long, furry ears flopping as he did so. He then proceeded to sneeze, before twitching an ear and looking at the three gathered in the group.

Scar-face stared at the animal companion, before seemingly giving a motion comparable to a shrug. It could not be helped. They would take this creature as well, despite the fact that it was a fluke that it had managed to get into the nest. Scar-face turned around and continued to walk deeper into the nest.

Tevri and Allé followed Scar-face cautiously, the latter keeping an eye on Arrow in case the hound did something potentially disastrous.

"Where are we going?" asked Tevri nervously.

"I don't know," replied Allé. "To see the Queen, maybe? If that's the case, then we can at least warn her about the threat to her safety - both of them." Tevri didn't need to ask what he meant by that.

The young Markovan glanced back the way they had come. The sounds of fighting were faintly audible from the entrance of the nest. "What about the others?"

"I don't know," replied Allé grimly. He cast a glance at Scar-face. "Perhaps our guide can somehow send one of her fellow commanders down to calm the soldiers down?"

No one paid much attention to the one nook they passed on their way, and thus no one noticed the figure that emerged from it and stealthily began to follow them.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Sat Jan 31, 2015 7:44 am

Scar-face paid no attention to the suggestion that she stop the chaos outside, for there was little chance of her orders carrying any weight. Some of the other Yibanren were already present outside, having mistaken the UCN for enemies, just as the Puren had. The greatest and ultimate way to stop the chaos was to request that the Yincixi stop the fighting herself--her word was automatically law, and her children never hesitated to obey it. A simple command carrying the weight of her power, transmitted through radio waves, would be enough to stop all of the confusion, allowing everyone to seek out the real threat.

Scar-face did feel sadness, though, for the fact that her fellow Kuanqunri were attempting to kill allies, while the allies were only trying to hinder them so that they no longer posed a threat. It was often true that the one who possessed the greatest number of scars was the one that always showed mercy in battle. A killer would slay her foe before she could receive a scar, but the one who only wanted to stop the foe, not to commit the ultimate profane act of murder, would be wounded countless times, disadvantaged by their restraint of lethal force. A killer also had a certain gleam in their eye, not found in parties that had never committed the dark deed. The gleam sometimes changed, but otherwise, it never left. Sometimes it was a look of cruelty, other times it was a look of guilt or defiance. Scar-face could tell by looking at the eyes, also, if a killer regretted what they had done.

Why she feared the Qiaosiwan finding the Yincixi was a very complex matter; she feared it for more reasons than simply what others considered to be a dangerous threat to the nest. When it had broken into the nest and caused all of the chaos, Scar-face had caught a glimpse of the creature's eyes. They contained a look that bore no semblance to the Yincixi, or any of her children. They were like polished stones, the killer's gleam so bright that it drained all other life from them. The Qiaosiwan did not have a true personality: it was only a killing machine, and so unlike a sentient being, or even a lowly animal such as the hound treading by Scar-face's side, that she did not understand why such a monstrosity could ever come to exist through the mechanisms of nature. It did not appear to have any sort of emotion, only ambition and the drive to achieve it.

The look in its eyes made the Qiaosiwan the only foe that Scar-face could not bring herself to fight. If someone fought it, then the battle would end in death; Scar-face would be the victim, had she tried to defeat it alone. The guilt of not stopping it, and the fear and paranoia she felt in not engaging it in a suicidal battle still gnawed at her. Was there some meaning in sacrificing her life to stop it? She could not stop it, which was why she desperately wanted to lead these strange aliens to her mother. She was helpless in the entire matter, for all her strength as a Yincixi. She could not stop the problem herself, and if she did not seek some other solution, the only options were to flee in disgrace, commit her life in a death-wish fight, or to struggle helplessly against something she could never hope to stop.

Eventually, the tunnel mouth opened up into an enormous chamber, where a mound rose up, a pit with a hole in it, where the Yincixi often sat. She was there, majestic in countenance, still conversing with the alien Scar-face had brought with her some time earlier. Scar-face made a low bow as she entered the Yincixi's chamber, and produced a clicking sound in the air to draw attention. Yincixi Hashkina rose on her six legs slightly, upon seeing her most esteemed of the Yibanren. "Meihui, you have brought me more guests? Where do all of them come from?" She asked, though she only said so jokingly.

Samir turned to look at the visitors, also. His eyes widened, "Tevri, Allé, and...Arrow? Good to see you! Has the Majesty arrived here already?" He asked.

"Good to see you, Samir," said Allé, with a definite note of urgency. He then turned to the Queen, and bowed. "I beg your pardon, your Majesty," he said, not sure how else to address her, "but, you are in danger, from two different creatures. Second, there's been a grave misunderstanding, and the rest of our friends are fighting with some of your subjects."

If it had been possible for a Kuanqunri's eyes to widen with surprise, Yincixi Hashkina's would have done so. Being of a bug-like nature, unfortunately, Hashkina lacked the ability to form true facial expressions, and could do little more than open her mouthparts and pinchers slightly, while releasing an alarm pheromone that most creatures could otherwise not detect. "To my knowledge, the Qiaosiwan is a mutant Yangcixi-Yibanren hybrid who is coming to kill me, and all reports claim that it will eliminate any living thing that crosses its path." She said, first stating an awareness of one threat, "But my children are attacking you? This is very bad. I instructed them not to attack those that came from your transportation vessel. Their only cause for doing that would be if..." She drifted off. She looked carefully at all the entrances into the Yincixi's chamber.

"There is a second creature after me...." She shook her head slightly, the purple-tipped horns gleaming, "This is a terrible thing to occur. We have ignored other beings for generations, often not ever caring if we eliminated them. They often tried to exterminate our nests, and only a few years ago did I learn that it was possible for us to learn how to communicate. Even then, I struggle to teach my children speech. They can all do it, but it is not easy when they are not originally meant to speak with their mouths." She looked at the new arrivals, "You are telling me that there is something else after me? I am almost certain it is someone who cannot forgive our past offenses."

Hashkina's wings buzzed, "I will send a signal out, hopefully it will stop the fighting. I am very sorry! I never intended for these things to happen!" It was then that over radios a strange humming sound like musical notes was heard.

All over the nest, the Kuanqunri suddenly paused in their assault of the UCN soldiers, at hearing the signal.

The sudden stop if activity of the Kuanqunri brought a halt to the fighting, and sudden stillness reigned. Isbar suddenly made to counterattack, but Aarin planted a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.

“No need to antagonize them, Isbar,” he said. “If they don’t want to fight anymore, then that’s all the better for us. They’re not the enemy we’re after, anyways.”

He turned to Blair. “Are there any serious injuries amongst us? If so, someone should probably stay behind to look after them while the rest of us proceed forward.”

“Say!” piped up Mott. “Where have Allé and Tevri gone?”
___________________________________________________________________________

“I’m glad that’s done,” said Allé, in response to the cease-fire. “And now, we need to warn you, about two things. First, there’s what seems to be a large aggressive deviant of your species that seems to be bent on destroying you. But I’m afraid he’s not the only one with such intentions.” Here, Allé looked at Tevri, expecting him to pick up. Tevri hesitated, and then nervously swallowed, and mustered what dignity he could.

“I’m afraid what Allé has said is true,” he said. “A representative of my own species, named Jessic, is also here. He sneaked away from our ship (that large metal thing we travel in) and means to kill you as well. He’s carrying a weapon that would allow him to destroy you with one shot if he uses it.” Tevri paused a moment, before continuing. “I’m terribly sorry. I feel ashamed that one of my people should be doing what he’s done. Of all the Markovans I’ve known, never have I met one who cared so little about honor and the lives of other creatures as he does. He even murdered one of our own before leaving the ship to come here.”

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Wed Mar 18, 2015 8:17 pm

Yincixi Hashkina rose up on her hind four legs, "I am already aware of the presence of intruders in the nest, and my children would stop even an attacking motion, now that I have given the command. We are already aware, at least, of the Qiaosiwan, for when it came and invaded this place it killed multiple Gongren and Puren, and smashed a great hole at the entrance it came through. Having come from the same direction as you, some of my younger-hatched children had come to the conclusion that you were somehow to blame. They transposed their anger to you, and caused a stir, when the truth is that we were already trying to stop the Qiaosiwan from reaching this chamber."

The matriarch lowered her head, "The commotion is a very bad omen, for those of us here, for under such commotion, anything could sneak in and catch us unaware, even a creature that has proceeded to kill my children left and right." She paused, "However, of this rogue 'Markovan', as you call him, we have seen no evidence of his presence, which is far more alarming, I should think. At least with one foe, it is obvious when he arrives. This second one, however, would kill silently, leaving no evidence but the corpse of the victim." Hashkina did not realize how strongly her own words correlated with past events. "We only have a matter of time, in such a case, but so long as my corpse remains, our kind will remain in this galaxy, for my legacy would carry on, even if I were to die."

The Scar-face Yibanren, whom Hashkina had called Meihui, walked up slowly, "If...Mother...die..." Came words from the Yibanren's mandibles, so mangled they were hard to understand, "Foolish...thinking...Kuanqunri...go...die...too..." She said.

Everyone turned to look at her with surprise, as Yibanren were supposed to be incapable of speech. Regardless of their surprise, Meihui continued, "Qiaosiwan...after...the.....Kaishiqiu...must...kill...Mother...to...obtain..." She said.

It was then that everyone's attention was turned to a ferocious, insectile scream from one of the tunnels. Several Gongren swarmed out, trying to block the tunnel, as the sounds of a fight broke out away from view.

"Time...up...Qiaosiwan...here..." Meihui croaked, adopting a stance, waiting for what would soon come.

Tevri and Allé both turned towards the chamber entrance and drew swords. Tevri swallowed nervously. "I'm afraid," he said. "I'm not much of a warrior."

"I can barely stop my teeth from chattering myself," replied Allé. "But don't worry about it. Few warriors go into battle without being afraid." He looked back at Yincixi. "We've already encountered this monster once ourselves. I don't know what we can do, but whatever we can do, we'll do it."

"Such a generous offer, considering you yourselves were considering the possibility of killing Miss Queenie off before."

Everyone turned to see Jessic coming in. In his right hand, he had his sword. In his left was the weapon Mott had made, primed and ready to fire. He moved forward in a tense and crouched fashion, a feverish, crafty look in his eyes.

"No!" cried Tevri, springing forward. "Stop right now, Jessic! I command you!" He tried to lay hold of Jessic, but the older Markovan was stronger and more experienced. Shoving off Tevri, he leaped up and kicked him in the face, knocking him to the ground. Tevri wiped his face and saw blood from were the blades on Jessic foot greaves had gotten him in the face.

"You command me, eh?" said Jessic. "You've certainly been grabbing authority lately, little Princeling. Well, guess what. Your daddy's far away, and as far as I'm concerned, you have no more authority over me than any of the over sized beetles living here. But I intend to see that their infestation ends right here."

He raised the weapon, but then Allé jumped forward, grabbing Jessic's arm as he tried to wrest the weapon from him. With a snarl, Jessic whirled around and thrust his sword into Allé's chest, the blade coming out again between the Vatarri's shoulders. Placing a foot against Allé, he roughly pulled his sword free, sending Allé stumbling to the floor, choking and gasping in pain. Jessic then turned and raised the weapon, pointing it at Yincixi Hashkina.

"Now it's your turn!" he said, his finger closing around the trigger.

Yincixi Hashkina took a look directly at Jessic, before her attention rapidly shifted to what had appeared behind him, with a flurry of wounded Gongren flying overhead and smashing against the wall behind her, dying instantly from the impact. With a chitinous scream, a powerful exoskeletal scythe snapped, as the Qiaosiwan appeared, determined just as much as its foes not to let Jessic kill Hashkina, should he ruin the foul mutant's plans in the process. Before the trigger could be pulled, the weapon was ripped out of his hands, and the muzzle cut and bent, rendered unusable. The monster raised its other claw, and, with its jaws dripping acid that burnt holes into the floor, aimed a single, powerful blow, directly at Jessic's throat.

Jessic's severed head struck the wall and landed next to the body of the dead Gongren. A second later, his body hit the floor.

Pulling himself up, Tevri jumped at the weapon, and grabbed it up from where the Qiaosiwan had dropped it. One looked confirmed the worst; it was completely ruined.

Looking up, Tevri saw the evil creature, known as the Qiaosiwan to the Arachnarche and as the Tyrant to all others, towering over him. Crying out in fear and panic, he grabbed up his sword and struck at one of the creature's legs.

Post by ViperaUnion Fri Mar 20, 2015 11:19 pm

The Qiaosiwan screeched as a cut appeared in its leg, dripping brilliant azure blood. The cut, however, was not enough to cripple it, as it turned to strike at Tevri with one of its sickle-like front legs. Before the blow could occur, however, a vicious howl cut through the room, as Arrow launched himself at the creature, and landed on its back, digging into the mutant's segmented body with blunt nails, and ripping at the base of the Qiaosiwan's two pairs of wings with his sharp teeth. Like dead leaves, the yellowed wings, already riddled with holes, shredded in Arrow's mouth like paper, and three of them fell to the floor, completely torn from the monster's body. The Qiaosiwan practically screamed, as though losing its wings were agony, as it beat the single one that was remaining, desperately attempting to throw the attacking hound off of its back. As it floundered, A massive dent appeared in the exoskeleton of a middle leg, right next to the one that Tevri had struck, forcing the creature to lift it off of the ground, as it refused to support the Qiaosiwan's weight.

Samir materialized a distance away, blue blood dripping from his horns, matching up with holes centered in the dent on the monster's leg, "You are only strong in space, where we cannot fight effectively, but now, I see that those warped bumps on your exoskeleton make it crumble all too easily. Natural armor should not so easily yield to my horns, as blunt as they are, but look at the punctures they've left!" He said. The Qiaosiwan screamed again, and rolled onto its back, dislodging Arrow, and leaving a long cut along the hound's side from one of the sharp ridges on its back, before charging directly for the Krylonian.

Before the Qiaosiwan could harm Samir, however, a massive, blade-like leg struck into the segment connecting its abdomen and thorax, spurting blood like a fountain, as though it were a vital weak point. "That is quite enough out of you!" Yincixi Hashkina exclaimed, before stabbing the base of her abdomen, containing a long, deadly stinger, into its side, pumping caustic venom into the cavity where its vital organs were. The Qiaosiwan swung its claws at her, striking the side of her thorax, and sending her skidding away, where she regained footing and rose back up, flaring out her brilliant purple wings. The Qiaosiwan turned to face her, but as both stood there, bleeding heavily, the Qiaosiwan began to convulse where it was, as though choking, though it had no need of air.

Hashkina lowered her head, "You have lost, Qiaosiwan. You can no longer hope to gain anything by taking the Kaishiqiu. Even now, everything in your body is dissolving from my sting. You thought you could defeat me, but you have forgotten why I am the Yincixi of this nest!"

The monster screamed, and lunged at her, this time, aiming a blow with its claws at the bottom of her abdomen. Hashkina, who had not been expecting it, could only position herself differently, so that it struck the very base of her thorax, where her two bodily segments were connected. As this fatal-looking blow was struck to her body, Hashkina drove a claw into the mutant, piercing the thick armor casing on its head, and into its brain. The monster froze, shuddered, and then dropped dead. Hashkina shakily rose, and stumbled away, before falling against a wall, and then struggling and failing to rise.

Arrow, who had somehow managed to stand up, yelped as he tried to limp over to the matriarch, sensing that her life was imminent. He was bleeding badly, the red blood caked to his side, but for some reason, he did not care. He only felt concern for this strange creature, who had defended his master. Arrow knew Samir was his master, now, for he had bravely wounded the monster with his horns. He stopped by her face, and licked beneath one of her four massive eyes, trying to stop the pain that he could sense her experiencing, but in the end, it was only an attempt to comfort her, for surely, the wound would end her life.

"Mother...." Meihui croaked, as she darted over to the Yincixi, gleaming eyes filling with horror as she took in the sight of the wound.

"Leave it!" Hashkina ordered, stopping the Yibanren from doing anything to cover the injury and staunch the flow. The scar-faced commander stumbled back, looking as though she had been struck. "I have lost too much of it." Hashkina said, "What would futile efforts do? It is not your fault." She said. "It is my own choice that has led to this. Just as it was the Markovan's."

"Mother..."
Meihui lowered her head, and touched her horns to the ground, and if her unblinking eyes could have shed tears, she would have wept a storm of tears for what she could not have prevented.

"Meihui, there is something you may do...cut it out of me...while I still live...I need to speak of it...I will give it...with my own blessing...before I die..." She said. She then rolled her abdomen onto her side, "Do it." She said.

Meihui hesitated, reluctant to do what had been asked of her, "Do it, Meihui! Do not disobey your mother!"

With a movement that was more like a startle response, Meihui cut deep into the dying Yincixi's abdomen, creating a long, surgical-looking cut, while Hashkina screamed with the agony, and pushed her face into the floor, though somehow, she remained conscious. Meihui reached her grasping legs into the cut, and appeared to grab something, before pulling out something smooth and oblong in shape. It was a bright, gleaming amber color, with a brilliant blue center that seemed to pulse rainbow colors. It almost appeared as though it gave off a faint light. It seemed polished, as though it were a jewel.

"...Sa....Samir!" She choked, blood coming from her mandibles, now.

The Krylonian ran over, "Hashkina..." he was too shocked by what the ruler had ordered to understand anything or process the events.

Hashkina slowly and haltingly pushed the gleaming object that had been pulled from her abdomen into his hands. The surface of the object was so sleek, that all the blood had seamlessly slid off of it, and it was already clean, "Samir....this...is what...the Qiaosiwan...was...after...the...Kaishiqiu..." She then coughed, more blood coming up. "...This...is...the future....of the...Kuanqunri....in...this galaxy...."

Samir looked at the object, and then at her, "Is it...a Yincixi?" He asked haltingly.

Hashkina lifted her head, and let it fall, "...From the day...we are born..." She coughed, "An egg forms....different from...the rest....we can't...lay it...until the end...of...our lives....when....we lose...our stingers...." Her voice began to fade, "They change...to...survive...what killed...their mothers....they're....perfect...copies...but...also...different." Her words became a whisper.

"Samir....look...after...her...." The glow began to die in her eyes, "Teach her...to know...other...races.................."

Arrow, wounded as he was, let out a long, mournful howl, and Meihui shoved her face into the ground, looking as though she wished to depart from the very plains of reality itself.

Yincixi Hashkina was dead.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by Vara Lord Tue Mar 24, 2015 10:00 pm

Tevri stood in shock, trying to take all this in. A rough coughing sound brought him back to reality. Allé was lying in a growing pool of red, choking on his own blood, a trickle of which was making its way down the corner of his mouth. Tevri hurried over, and began to try to lift him a little, Allé, a pained look on his face, motioned him to stop. He coughed again, more blood coming up.

"It's. . . it's gonna be alright," he said choking on tears. "We'll get you back to the Majesty, and they'll have you patched up in no time."

Allé blinked, and turned his head to look at the dead body of Yincixi Hashkina. "She gave. . . her life . . . for her. . . child," he said. He sighed, and coughed a little, his body began to go limp, his eyes to flutter, his voice getting quieter. "So. . . noble . . . Too bad . . . never got to. . . know her. . . better."

With that, Allé's eyes shut, and he never spoke again.

A clatter caused a few of those present to look up. Aarin, Blair, and the rest had arrived, and were standing in shock at the sight before them. Aarin eyes went to the carcass of the Qiaosiwan and Jessic's body not far away, then questioningly to Samir, before falling on Tevri kneeling beside Allé. Gasping with shock he hurried over, dropping down to a kneeling position next to Allé, taking up the Vatarri's scientist's hand to check for a pulse. There was none.

"Oh, Allé," he said sadly, pressing the hand to the side of his own face.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Throughout the nest, there was a horrible silence, as slowly, Kuanqunri began to enter the chamber, taking in the scene. A high-pitched whining noise filled the air, and then people realized that it was the sound of screaming; the children of Yincixi Hashkina wailed with grief, and it seemed as though the entire world were stricken with sorrow. Blair could only stare with shock, looking between the body of Allé, to the dead matriarch, and then to Samir, who sat crumbled on the ground, a blood-coated hound standing next to him, while he clutched something pulsing with brilliant colors in his arms. He saw Jessic's decapitated body, and what remained of the Qiaosiwan. Not sure of who to ask, he looked at Samir, "Samir...you 'as 'ere before us. What 'as happened? Why is the Queen dead?!" Blair's shock wearing off, it turned to rage. What had happened here?

Samir did not respond, he seemed to be in a daze, as Arrow sniffed him and at the Qiaosiwan's blood on his horns, where it had begun to harden into a crust. Samir was too shocked to even care when the creature that served as his companion looked up at Blair and whined, before pacing back and forth next to the Krylonian in distress. Blair, seeing this, spoke louder, and more sharply, "Samir! What's the meaning of this!?" He demanded, making his words more formal and clear, this time. This seemed to work, and the blank, endless stare that had been in Samir's eyes dissipated, as his grip on the object in his arms tightened sightly. He blinked his eyes once, and tears fell, before he haltingly stood up, protecting what he was holding with one wing, as though not wanting people to look at it.

"Hashkina...protected us from the Qiaosiwan. It was distracted...it killed Jessic." He looked at her body, but hurriedly looked away, as though the sight made him want to vomit. He stifled a sob, and continued, "She killed the Qiaosiwan, but it fatally wounded her..." He drifted off, and looked at Allé, "Allé...died...trying to stop Jessic." He then couldn't say anymore, as he choked up, while Arrow continued to pace, his blood crusted along the large gash in his side, continuing to cry. The creature was badly wounded, but it seemed like he would live, granted that the wound didn't open again.

Meihui stepped forward to look at the body of Allé, "Good...person...." She said, before gently tapping his other hand, wrapping the small appendage on the tip of her scythe-claw around the wrist, "Hero....to us..." She touched the body like it were something precious, "Saved Kuanqunri...protected...the Kaishiqiu...noble...like Mother was..." She then gently set his wrist back down by his side, as though it were fragile, like glass.

Meihui then looked over at Samir, and pointed her small leg-appendage at him, "You...Caretaker...to heir....Mother named...you...her final wish...you raise...the next Yincixi..."

Aarin sighed, and gently placed Allé's hands on his chest in a folded position. "Good old Allé," he said. "Giving his all, just as always."

Tevri was weeping inconsolably. "My fault," he sobbed. "Should have been able to stop Jessic. . ."

Aarin laid a hand on Tevri's shoulder. It's not your fault. I'm sure you did everything you could, and I'm sure Allé would say the same."

Menawhile, Mott had found the broken remains of the weapon he had created. He looked at it with loathing, regretting that he had ever designed it. Dejectedly, he placed it in his tool pouch, determined to scrap it and destroy the plans the moment he got back to the ship.

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Fri Apr 17, 2015 8:31 pm

Travis looked at the destruction around him, all of the bodies, and sighed, shaking his head regretfully, "There isn't much more we can do. We've failed our mission miserably, and ten percent of the soldiers on the Majesty have died either by being trampled by frightened drones, or because they found the Tyrant and were silenced before they could report its location. We got a call in on the way here, Captain Silver, who was leading Lieutenant Colonel Ravage's Third Squadron in her absence. Their group investigated and gave us the statistics. They found the path of destruction that mutant left behind." One feathery hand clamped tightly shut, "The thing killed so many of its own kind; just as many Arachnarche died as Chimerosu." He looked at Hashkina's body, "We didn't even save the Queen, I'm assuming that's her. The whole species could go extinct, now, because of this." He shifted the weight on his feet uncomfortably, as various Chimerosu soldiers entered, preparing to load up bodies and transport them back to the ship.

Up until this point, nobody fully understood what had been entrusted to Samir; friends were grieving loss, and new arrivals did not understand the Kuanqunri language. When Samir heard Travis admitting that there was no way of saving the species whose nest they now stood in, he suddenly pushed down his grief, realizing the weight of his own responsibility in preserving the race. Chimerosu were naturally inclined to preserve life, even if the creature in question was extremely dangerous; the race had powerful collective memory. It revolved strongly around the cause of the Great Dragon War, and the alliance between the Krylonians, the Dram'Knoll, and the Svangar. Although most history that anyone could gather was that the three races were persecuted, prompting warfare, the truth was actually far darker than what anyone was aware of. All three races possessed a powerful respect for life, because the cause of the war dealt directly with the morality of killing something, and the grounds for why it was justified.

Samir understood selfish motives, having previously been a highly selfish and petty person. He was viewed as useless, and in many ways, he was. He had no skills in the field of fighting aside from what any Chimerosu of his species was capable of, nor did he know how to hunt, or forage for food. Additionally, he would attempt to show off with his knowledge of technology, when, in reality, the things he knew of were dated and no longer used. He was very intelligent, he had almost been seen as a genius or prodigy, and would have been regarded as such in the present, if not for the fact that he had spent roughly a century trapped inside of a cryogenics pod. He had volunteered for the first cryogenics experiment to be attempted on a person by the Chimerosu, because he was the only one who was willing to attempt it. He was to be woken up a year after the experiment started, but instead, events occurred that threatened the Empire, and the strange artificial planetary outpost that the laboratory had been located on was abandoned by the scientists, who feared for their own safety. Over the course of the century that Samir had been sleeping, technology had rapidly advanced throughout the Galaxy, undercutting any previous knowledge or information Samir was aware of. Even a decade after being woken up, Samir was still struggling to adjust to the future he had come into.

In truth, a part of Samir was bitter, upset that he had been so readily abandoned, even when people knew he was alive, even inside the cryogenics pod. A part of him wanted to punish people for forgetting that he could contribute something useful, but how could he do anything close to that, when he did not understand half of the technological advancements of today? Stealth technology, cloaking, super weapons; all things that had either not existed, or had advanced beyond his understanding. He had been a scientist who might have contributed to such discoveries, but all of the things he knew were obsolete: Proven or unfounded theories, dated technology that was morbidly inefficient, a mass of newly-discovered materials and compounds. Still after a decade, Samir had felt cheated, and had masked his own rage and pain over the betrayal by inflating his self-image and importance until nobody could stand to be in the same room. Samir was no longer important in the Galaxy, and had insisted on remaining in the past, rather than trying to move on and catch up with the world to re-gain his lost status. He had been self-destructive in many ways, his self-esteem made no better by imbalance of weight on his wings that made flight virtually impossible.

Samir rose, and walked over to Travis, holding the Kaishiqiu, the egg that would hatch into a Yincixi, as though it were the most precious thing remaining to him, even as Arrow, somehow miraculously alive, slowly limped behind him, his loyalty having returned. "No, we didn't fail. We have the ability to save them still." He said. No sense in the former grandeur he had previously used. It was time to be the person he really was, without the shell protecting his injured heart.

Travis looked sharply at Samir, "What are you doing here, and what's that thing that you're holding?" He demanded, perhaps questioning what entitled Samir to be the person who had been present. A soldier could have protected the Queen; Samir was a civilian who was barely able to protect himself, much less guard against a gigantic acid-spraying monster. Travis forgot that Samir had practically been kidnapped by Meihui, the Scar-faced commander, to be placed in the role of diplomat.

Samir held the Kaishiqiu carefully against his chest, careful to support its sleek form. The ellipsoid egg was bright amber, with a bright blue center surrounded by a brilliant corona that seemed to pulse bright colors like a heartbeat; it was cool to the touch, and gave off a shine as though it were a jewel. "Before the Queen...Hashkina...died...she gave this to me. It was...her dying wish. It is the Kaishiqiu, the thing that the Tyrant...Qiaosiwan...was after. What I am holding is the future of this race." He watched as Travis stared mutely at the object he was holding. "It is a queen, Travis." Samir said, his expression intense, "A queen that is meant to succeed Hashkina! It is what we were meant to protect, and look, it is here, in one piece!"

"She gave the egg that was supposed to hatch into the next queen to you? I find that doubtful." A voice drifted in, as Kerr, the Stagnumian, slowly limped in, a large slash present on the upper part of his left hind leg. "You have no experience with raising creatures such as these, you could not even raise Stagnumian aranapods, and even a child can successfully care for them, on my planet." His voice was highly critical. "Why would she give you her egg, when you have no qualifications to raise a member of a different alien species as a foster parent? More importantly, why would she give you the egg, when the one you are holding is the only hope this species has of survival? I fail to see how it would make sense." He said.

Samir looked at Kerr, "You are no more qualified than anyone else here, aranapods might be easily raised on your planet, but is that a suitable environment for a creature that, by nature, would have been raised here, by the commander caste, or the Yibanren, as they are called?" He walked close to Kerr, so that his own beak was inches from the Stagnumian's, very close by anyone's standards, "You listen to me, Kerr." The Krylonian said, his grip tightening protectively around the Kaishiqiu, "Hashkina was no fool, don't you dare even imply that the Kuanqunri Yincixi was anything less than the most noble of females in the entire galaxy!" His words came sharply, filled with anger. His mane ruffled, and he seemed to grow to twice his size, as his wings spread out to make him look larger. His voice grew deadly calm, "She gave me this responsibility, because she understood that interaction with other races could not be avoided in this galaxy. What she did was nothing less than to think of the future generations. If the Kuanqunri are to survive, they must have a queen that knows how to arrange diplomacy with alien races, and instill speech that we can understand in her children." He said.

He backed away, his feathers smoothing as he folded his wings. He looked between Blair, Travis, and Kerr, the major decision makers of the entire mission, "Now, I know what you are probably thinking, but if you consider that arrogance, let me guess aloud. You may think that I am doing this for self-importance, but if you believe selfishness is all that might be attributed to my character, you are wrong! I saw Hashkina die today for the future of her children, and I saw Allé die trying to protect her and stop Jessic from committing an unjustified act of murder! I envy them, that they could be so selfless, while I am just a coward who only moves when I know that there is no risk! I would be a blessed person to die as honorably as they did, but I'm not that kind of person." He curled and uncurled his tail, "I am a bitter person. I cursed those around me for my inability to fly, and I cursed the galaxy for advancing while I was trapped in a cryogenics pod that I had been frozen in on my own free will. I am sick of living that way, expecting everything to work out perfectly because it used to be like that in the past! I used to think that Ravage did not understand how I felt, but now I realize that she was only trying to force me to see past my own blindness!" He said sharply, the thought of the strange Krylonian bubbling up from his memory suddenly.

He then forced himself to calm down, to slow the beating of his heart, "The Chimerosu are a race honor-bound to preserve the races and species that are persecuted by the rest of the galaxy. I now realize that Ravage tried to make me see how she viewed me, as a person who had never vowed to exterminate an entire race, a person who had still not gone against the old traditions, the one thing that runs deeply in the heart of every Chimerosu in existence. Force was the only teaching she knew, and I had condemned her for it. I would have asked her for forgiveness, had she been here, the person who rescued me from that cryogenics pod, the one person that I felt that I needed to impress the most, to prove that I had worth!"

Samir's ranting stopped again, "Perhaps I am too emotional over this, but let me be very clear." He fixed the group with his blue gaze, the eyes being exceptionally pale, by Chimerosu standards, seeming to glint like chips of pure ice, "I may not be the most qualified, but I was entrusted with this egg. Perhaps you don't trust me, I don't even know if I trust myself, but if we can trust anybody, we can trust Hashkina's. I have faith in her, so I will have faith in myself. It doesn't matter what you say or do. I will look after the Kaishiqiu, because I have watched how they care for their young, and I know exactly what to do. I don't need to be a modern scientist to raise the next queen. I only have to observe how it was done by their own kind to know what is right."

Aarin listened to what Samir had to say as he assisted a Chimerosu place Allé's body on a stretcher. He glanced at Tevri. "Did the Queen really entrust her egg to Samir?" Tevri nodded.

Aarin looked at Samir, then at Blair, Kerr, and Travis, before stepping forward.

"I know I don't really have a say in what happens here, but if I may, please hear me. I know, as we all do and as Samir himself has freely admitted, that most of us have had very little reason to place confidence in him. I'm not surprised anyone would be inclined to question him in this matter. However, as I listen to him now, I see he has grown as a person. If the Queen, Hashkina according to Samir, entrusted her offspring to him, as Tevri here affirms. She didn't choose anyone else but him. I don't know what her reason for this was, but if as Samir says - and I believe him when he says it - that she was as wise and caring an individual as he claims, then I for one am willing to trust her judgement, and I'm sure her reasons for choosing him were good ones. If she chose Samir to be the one to be a teacher to her young, to be the one to instruct it in knowing other races, then that is sufficient to me."

Aarin shrugged. "Besides, what Samir said is true. He has seen more of this race than we have. He probably does know a thing or two about their methods for child-rearing. Can any of us make that claim? I certainly can't." He looked as Samir with a small smile, and then turned to Blair, Travis, and Kerr. "If you would be willing to accept my advice on this matter, I think we should allow Samir to do what he promised the Queen he would do - raise her offspring."

UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC) Empty Re: UCN/Arachnarche Disruption Splinter (IC)

Post by ViperaUnion Wed May 06, 2015 5:00 pm

Travis looked first between Aarin, and then Samir, visibly weighing what action he should take in trying to decide who should be assigned to raise the queen. It was true that there were certain people who might have been considered more qualified—Kerr himself, a master of raising any sort of crawling or segmented organism, would have been viewed as the most qualified on the Majesty. A sentient being, however, was different from an animal commonly kept as a pet. Kerr was not known for his endearing personality, or for his tendency to foster cooperation among alien races, despite being more willing to do so than other Stagnumians. It was also true, as Travis was aware, that raising a child of any species required more than just logical understanding, but a genuine emotional connection to nurture it. A personal connection was even more so important in intelligent creatures, because they would rely on what they had learned more than animals that relied purely on instinctive behaviors.

After a long hesitation, Travis sighed, and closed his eyes, rubbing the lids as though they were suddenly sore, or as if he were tired, “Very well, Samir. I was not initially fond of the idea of you raising the last hope for this species. It is an undertaking that approaches almost sacred levels; it is true, as you say, that Chimerosu live to defend other species, although the history of why was lost to the UCN, and we have not managed to find any evidence as to the reason for this.” He stopped rubbing his eyelids and looked at the Krylonian, “I had thought at one point of asking you, Ravage, or Horus about this. I may have mentioned it to Ravage, but she appeared to be so disgusted by whatever knowledge she had that she refused to speak a word. Do you have any awareness of why?”

Samir’s feathers ruffled, as his grip on the egg tightened slightly, as though to protect it from something, though there was no evident threat in the question. He remained deadly quiet for a time, but it was clear nobody would move until he gave some sort of response. “If you want the truth,” Samir said, slowly, at first, “The truth is so morbid, so horribly revolting, that you would wish you had never asked me that question.” He said.

Disturbed, but seemingly satisfied with the response, Travis stepped aside, “Alright, then…”He said, somewhat stunned by the unnerving response, and permitting him to pass. Blair came to Samir’s right, and the Yibanren Meihui took his left. Kerr brought up the rear of the group. They guarded him from the sight of anyone else who passed by; this was a delicate situation. As they departed, Travis remained behind before looking at Aarin and the other alien diplomats.

“Do you know, perhaps, why they hate talking about the time before the war, as they do?” He asked, looking truly puzzled, not understanding. He shook his head, and turned, walking slowly after everyone.

In relative silence, the procession moved onto the Majesty, and no questions were raised when Meihui boarded with them, most assuming directly that, with the fight over, she was a diplomat from the Kuanqunri. They paid little attention except for a passing glance as the took in the chaos.

Others who knew, however, watched with hushed silence, as others mourned; many people from both sides had needlessly died. Among those counted dead were Haku, the last of the two Vitisan diplomats, who located and fought the Tyrant in the tunnels and was killed in battle, and Privates Grove and Snow, who, in a sudden change of heart, prevented the deaths of a group of injured who had taken shelter in a shallow alcove in the nest, stabbed fatally by the horns of the Solider caste before the fighting could be stopped, saving a total of eight people. Countless others were badly injured, several of which would result in permanent scars or disfigurements. Several men had lost eyes, others had their horns snapped off at the very base. Many of them were covered with ugly gashes from scything claws or sharp horns and mouthparts. It was a hopeless thing to see, as people slowly limped back into the ship to flood the medical ward.
