Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
I miss that I only ever got to watch the first Hobbit movie. I wanted to see what the dragon looked like...

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
The second is waaay better than the first. Smaug is probably the coolest dragon you'll find in any movie. Definitely worth a watch.

I watched the extended edition of the second with my family last Wednesday to prepare for the third.

I'll be recapping sometime over break before I go see the third. It's exciting. I also hear rumors that they'll possibly make movies about the Silmarillion.

I rewatched both in a Lord of the Rings marathon yesterday and the day before. Fun times, many chips were eaten, many quotes were said.

I rather hope they don't. For one, it's an insane amount of material. Unless they specialize on just a few parts, it'll take at least a dozen movies. That aside, I think Tolkien movies need to be given a rest. While I like the The Hobbit movies, it seems to me that the original Tolkien spirit is beginning to get watered down for the sake of Hollywood.

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
That's true. Although I wouldn't mind seeing something done on the whole Ilúvatar and Melkor thing. I think that might be cool, if done well. Although as far as Hollywood goes, yes, I agree. I don't see why they needed to stretch one book into three movies, each of which lasts four hours. They added an insane amount of story that wasn't even there, which made me mad. Despite that though I do still think the Hobbit movies are pretty cool, mainly because of modern special effects that have been incorporated into the franchise.

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
I read on Fox News that Peter Jackson screwed it all up. Still going to see it, though.

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
Well, as for entertainment value, it was a good movie, and I guess I enjoyed it. Still, it wasn't very true to the book, so to speak. I also feel we could have done without a certain romance.

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
The Hobbit series by itself is good, but the problem with making books or other works into movies is how people don't write movies as good as they used to, and then they try to incorporate 'filler' stuff into the original story that might ruin it. I seriously think that while special effects are much better and more impressive than they used to be, writers should try to ignore the fact that they have special effects, and focus solely on nailing each of the characters, before they acknowledge the cinematic aspect.

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
I just saw The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Despite any aforementioned criticism, I really enjoyed this movie. Maybe it's because I've never read the book. (Purist haters gonna hate)

Re: The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies
Lol did you really? I just got back from seeing it too. Overall I thought it was great, although I really think that the entire movie was just of people clashing swords. It was just meant to be an action movie for money, in my eyes. There was very little character development period. The title basically summed up the entre movie. However, I still think it was pretty awesome and the ending was really good.
- Don't read this if you haven't seen the movie:
I also don't like how Smaug died in the first fifteen minutes. I really think that dragon deserved a better death scene. Plus, does Thorin also die in the book? I haven't read it yet but I'm about to. If he doesn't die that'll tick me off, XD
