ÂPØÇÄŁŸPŠĘ II: TĘRMĮŃÂTĮØN

Raiko sat quietly. His body greased, feathers mangled... Clothes bloodied. As the smoke churned in the sky above, he could only attempt to calculate the events of the past three days. What had led to this...

***

A bright and sunny morning here on Sivoma, the system's star shining brightly. Three moons slowly disappeared as morning broke out over the sky. The tall skyscrapers seemed to gently graze the clouds, a beautiful metropolis blooming over the planet's surface.

An emergency news broadcast wandered onto the technological receivers of hundreds of homes, telling of a few madmen running around the streets and killing people. Simply cannibals, no doubt. The soldiers would find them, take them away. No bother to anyone, not worth their worry.

So they thought.

A black-greased beak plucking from the bloody cadaver of some fallen victim. A trail of blood and black grime slicked through the alleys. The horrid, unmistakable stench that Karthla usually carried was in the air. That horrid smell. Much like burnt blood mixed with stale urine and infection. The soldiers ran through firing guns, yet nothing would bring down the rapidly mutating creature. By now it had grown a hard layer of skin, much like an exoskeleton and several separate heads tipping tendrils, enormous claws, and a beak spiraled with spikes. It let out a horrendous warped screech, like that of a Jorro'kil, but at the same time... the noise could never be uttered by a Kil. It quickly jumped up and grabbed a hold of the side of the building on its left, quickly leaping from side to side until it was out of sight. Quickly other black-skinned Jorro'kil poured into the alleyway, behind the soldiers, and began tearing into them. About twelve mutants, about five soldiers. There wasn't a chance.

_________________________________________________

A Jorro'kil peered at a microscope-like device, examining organisms beneath. His beak was cracked and crumbled to the right side of the tip. His eyes a pale blue. He wore a white labcoat, and looked at the other doctors in the room. "You both need to come and see this. I think we've got something else on our hands. Not any type of stimulant drug that these madmen are using. A soldier shot down one of them... Look at what I picked up from it..."

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by ViperaUnion Wed May 07, 2014 8:34 pm

In a darkened, windowless basement room, a figure sat on her knees in an office chair, her face illuminated by multiple computer screens, most playing live video feeds, obtained by hacking into security cameras in various locations. It was a female Jorro'kil, although what she was doing outside of school, which would have, in the local area, she supposed, been on lock-down or completely cancelled due to the chaos outside, one couldn't be sure. Taking in her appearance, though, she didn't look like any sort of student, or even a regular Jorro'kil, for that matter. Wearing comfortable, casual black sweat pants, and a short-sleeve black shirt that was clearly a few sizes too big, appearance were obviously not as important, also indicated by the tangled, somewhat greasy-looking hair that was grown out to the middle of the back, and the oily, unwashed look of the feathers. Looking more closely, though, one would see what clearly set this Jorro'kil teen apart from the rest, as fingers danced over a keyboard at rapid speed, and toes curled up beneath her.

There as an extra digit on each hand and foot.

Circuit, though, was unhindered, and in fact, used her extra fingers to her advantage, being a lightning-quick typist, and something of a prodigy in the field of hacking. Her extra toes didn't bother her, but she largely refused to wear any sort of footwear, as it all bugged her, and she was all about comfort in the way she dressed. She began twirling her hair with one finger, and continued to type with the other hand. She wasn't some expert, but when since did cannibals happen to be a natural occurrence? This was highly suspicious, and she was grateful that her parents were military types who made sure their daughter kept at home was safe in the custody of a somewhat paranoid veteran.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

One of them trotted over, labcoat bobbing slightly at the fringes as he moved. As he peered into the microscope, an anxiety came over him, and his narrow eyes widened, slit pupils dilating slightly.

"Now that is interesting..."

"We should inform Kilan, he'll be eager to learn of this." The doctor said. The other one slowly moved to the slim COM panel on the wall behind them, though he had to push some boxes aside. Every wall was a dark grey, and the floor and ceiling a dull silver.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Viem snorted at the COM message that had just played inside the dropship. "Cannibals.. du'rakked nonsense. Media cover-up."

Another soldier in the T-20 Dropship, this one suited in standard Infantry Mk V Power Armor, hefted his rifle, and addressed Viem. "Hey, Strike, whaddya think is actually going on? There weren't any livefeeds.. That's bad news."

"I don't know rookie. But we'll find out." He replied.

The T-20 dropship, colored grey and blue, sped along across the skyline, leaving a thin tan trail meters behind it. It was roughly triangular when viewed from the side, acute in angle.

Along either side, a "wingspan" of sorts extended roughly four feet outwards, both above and below. This acted as a ramp on the lower portions, for the soldiers to step out onto once exiting from the side doors, and the upper span acting as cover for intense combat situations.

Both upper and lower spans were rectangular, arranged horizontally.

Minutes passed as the dropship approached its landing zone, and more moments, spent in anticipation for the ground, passed as the T-20 landed.

Even now, as Viem "Strike" Xarev's confidence was not broken, though lowered slightly, as he observed two MPs, dressed in nanocomposite combat vests and standard combat under and oversuits, peered worriedly into a barely-lit allyway.

Blood stains rimmed the entrance, and a few spatters were quite far from it. The blood was purple. Not a good sign.

"What's been happening here?" Viem asked one of the MPs. He turned around, looking distracted, before answering.

"Sir, we're not entirely.. sure. Some horrible looking kils ran out of their apartments over on the 4th district, wounded some others.. but apparently these others they wounded.. started to.. "

He looked down, now with a distressed expression.

"They became like the first kil... all black, twisted.. We sent some kils in to follow the things, which were last seen running into that alley over there-" He gestured to it with a slight turn of his head. "-the only thing we've gotten from them since is a COM for reinforcements, so we forwarded it to the Complex.. and here you are."

"Alright." He turned to the other soldiers, there were six of them, seven with himself included.

"We have unknown hostiles in that allyway, prepare for close quarters combat."  They all nodded, and continued to briefly check their weapons and equipment.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Darkel Sat May 10, 2014 11:10 am

Raiko, a common soldier, patrolled the side of the street. A gun in his arms, he let it come to his side as he held his COMM closer to listen. Something about hostile homicidal Kils approaching. He readied his gun, calling back to the other three with him. But they didn't see anything approaching.

There was some movement above, making Raiko look up near the top of the building he was standing next to. Nothing. But upon closer examination, he saw something black and liquid dripping from its side. He simply stared for many long moments. The other soldiers rushing him along. He moved towards the point where the madmen were said to be located. But he saw nothing.

But he heard something.

Something strange.

He heard a scream that was abruptly silenced, looking off to his left were it had come from. The only visual he got was a bit if purple blood spraying across the ground from an alleyway. The soldiers ran over and quickly pointed their guns at the culprit.

A tall, black Kil stood. Clothes greased and covered in a strange black sludge. Eyes purplish where the whites should have been, a bit blackish and dark scarlet in the irises. The beak was twisted and fumbled into grotesque fashions, but still retaining its sharp tip ideal for tearing flesh from bone.

The creature clawed and batted at a live Kil, a female, laying on the ground with her back tore open.

"Dur'akk it." Raiko said under his breath, promptly firing at the creature. It fell back against the wall, thick, dark violet blood gushing back against it. It was obvious that the blood once belonged to a Jorro'kil, but slowly shifted and turned into something else from the curse it bore.

The madman did not go down, but instead kept screaming. Raiko couldn't believe it. With every shot he fired it would not die. Quickly it lashed out and tore into one of the soldiers next to him. While it was closeby, Raiko kicked it down with one foot. The creature was unbelievably strong and took immense amounts of force to keep down. Raiko fired bullet after bullet into the crux of the creature's, skull, killing it. Or seemingly. He quickly tending to the fallen victim while the remaining soldiers tended to their fallen soldier.

"What happened?" Raiko asked the female, as she looked up at him. She was dead by now inevitably, and slowly leaking blood from her mouth. Raiko called for reinforcements on his COMM, looking down solemnly. He heard another screech from behind. Looking over his shoulder he saw the body of the madman twitching uncontrollably and rising back up. The chest had somehow swollen and a bit of puss was sickeningly oozing from it. It couldn't see where it was going and therefore simply flailed and slung itself in random directions. Raiko fired at the bulge of the chest, the deflation going a loud pop and the creature falling over.

"What was THAT?!" asked one of the men. Raiko did not respond. He simply lifted his COMM. "I need a bio-pickup team at my location immediately."

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Zaroas Sat May 10, 2014 3:50 pm

A lone Krathunian knelt upon the surface of the roof of a building, one of the structures that, in tandem with the others of its kind, formed the alleyway. The Krathunian was invisible to any Jorro'kil using a helmet HUD, employing the use of an armor based tactical cloaking. He, for the hidden alien was a male, flicked his right wrist downwards. A compartment at the front of his silvery gauntlet, laced with red stripes, opened, and a small sphere slid into his open palm. He tapped the surface of this device with his clawed, armored thumb, and it burst open, revealing a black rifle, marked with the symbol of the Intragalactic Covenant. He had the rifle's glow features deactivated, the linear orange lighting that normally adorned the surface of the weapon off.

Oraav Alenus brought the scope of his Slayer MK.XI Marksman's Rifle to his face, examining the Jorro'kil who had just arrived, before bringing the rifle down and detracting his helmet from the armor. The Krathunian special operations soldier had been sent to Sinova to investigate and disrupt the action of Purists, recently increased. He had been scouting this area for any oddities, and was instead greeted by a group of militants loyal to the Free Absolute. Oraav watched them carefully, not moving from his position, and listened. His expression under the armoring remained neutral as he considered what was happening. He had been looking for Purists, but what these troops spoke of could be much more interesting... and dangerous. Oraav decided that he would continue observing, and should something happen, he would reveal himself and provided support. For now, however, the Seeker would watch, and wait.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Whos Sat May 10, 2014 8:13 pm

Every soldier, including Viem, had attached flashlights to the underside of their weapons, Infantry Automatic Rifles Type 25, or IAR T25, for a better sight in the dark alley, even with the night-vision enhancements provided by their helmets.

The weapons, with 7.92 mm rounds fed into the upper chamber, and compressed gas into the lower, were dual-function, capable of firing both plasma and ballistic ammunition. They could tear apart most opponents, and were very well-made, built to function in the harshest of conditions, and relatively easy to field-strip.

The soldiers steadily walked into the alleyway, scanning the walls and the path ahead. Small, grimy marks or drops of blood marked an unusual path. Then, an unnerving noise broke the silence, which had only been treaded on by the soldiers' footsteps.

A high-pitched whine, followed by a low growl.

"Du'rakk!" One of the troopers said.

"What was..." Another said, not bothering to finish the verbal translation of what they were all thinking.

"Keep cool, we'll find it." Viem said, making sure to instill more calm, in the place of nervousness.

"Whatever it is.." He muttered almost inaudibly.

Oraav slowly moved across the roof, watching Viem and the Jorro'kil closely. As to not reveal his strategic position he did not turn on a flashlight attached to his hardlight rifle. Instead, he used the thermal scanners within his helmet to watch the group below, though for now he chose to restrict the range of the scanner to Jorro'kil stalking slowly through the alley as to reserve power. This could be amended within seconds, though. Oraav held his rifle at the ready, pointing it down into the area underneath, his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment. He didn't know what was down there - What had caused these soldiers to be deployed in this area, what had created a blood curdling scream - But he was ready to fight it.

Circuit continued to watch as events unfolded, unconsciously pressing the side of her left hand to the space made between her upper and lower beak. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously, This doesn't look like a common case of side effects via drug abuse. The behavior is wild, but none of the other symptoms make sense. These people are right to call a bio pickup team, but if I were them, I would quarantine myself, as well. We don't know what we're dealing with, here.

She took out a pen and a pad of paper, and began carefully taking notes of each observation.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Darkel Thu May 15, 2014 7:44 pm

There was a quiet purr of malevolence behind Oraav on the roof. Then a shriek. The large monster, the soldier who started the infestation, crawling on claws and hunchbacked with spikes along the back, howled and lashed out. At first missing, but gripping the side of the roof and swinging back up, tendrils flailing out.

Raiko stood up and spoke through a COMM that connected to home. Of course it was being monitored by his superiors. A feminine voice from the other side. Raiko spoke to his wife apparently, as she was worried after hearing the latest reports.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. I mean, I fought the Zraak, I think I can handle a few murderers. No, I can't really tell you what's going on right now. It's classified. But I'll be home later. Love you, bye" he said clicking off the COMM. He heard the noise from above and then quickly sprang to a fighting position.

Curses followed the shriek from above, as the soldiers aimed their weapons wildly, trying to find the source of the agonizing sound.

"Du'rakk du'rakk du'rakk..." One of them muttered, while alternating with "Please, please, please..."

Some of the others gave huffs of annoyance, until Viem ordered silence. One of them began to scan up and down in the narrow alleyway, until the most unnerving sight one could imagine broke the silence.

A twisted head, covered in a mucuous membrane and clotted, purple blood hung down infront of the soldier, and he only saw the outline of it, composed by his HUD. He looked upward, and saw it was attached to a corpse hanging from a ledge. "Ah.. uh.. Strike.. you better see thi-" A brief slithering noise could be heard, when he was interrupted by a sudden thermal scan, and the hanging corpse jumped to life with a startling, shrill cry. It twisted itself round, and jumped on the soldier, who in turn fired his rifle wildly, most of the rounds shot upwards. The rest of the soldiers opened fire, though confusion played its part, and after the rapid flashes of light, and the sounds of firing ceased, the attacker lay dead... and its prey lay, unconscious, with deep gashes torn through soldier's power armor.

Viem leaned down, and muttered something inaudible.

"What the... nothing... should be able to do this." He examined the jagged, ripped titanium. "Broke right through the alloy... it didn't get through the nano-" He turned his head to see a soldier about to kick the dead predator's mangled corpse. "Stop! Don't touch that thing, except with your ammunition."

Military COMMs overseers were having to censor out the more recent news feeds, realizing the panic that some of the images might cause. They had a new form of infection on their hands, but confirmation was needed as to what exactly it was. That's where the SC's came in. Except everything was not quite in order. Small anomalies within the monitering systems were detected.. and yet attempts to find the source rerouted them to advertisement websites, or to blank pages. Yet they were able, just barely, to recover the transit code of the visitors of such sites, and found one to be heavily encrypted.. though not unbreakable. Following this, it was decided between a Councilor, and military official, that such hacking required adjustment.

Potentially by force.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by ViperaUnion Tue May 20, 2014 5:54 pm

Circuit was still watching the various news feeds, when one of the screens that made up her system, a monitor for a special 'dummy' machine, which was designed to be the most vulnerable point of her system, yet easy to cut off from all the valuable equipment, gave her an alert. She took one glance at the monitor screen, and made a strange hissing noise in her throat, a deep sound with her beak clamped shut, and a strong forcing of air through the nares. Her fingers danced over the keyboard, as she immediately set up multiple different encryption codes, deliberately stalling the team of "Noble Hacks' as she liked to call them, who were trying to get into her whole system to infect it. She knew it wouldn't hold them off for long, though, as they had unraveled most of the codes already, but it would keep them from eliminating her equipment for the time being. Immediately after she had ensured that they would be busy for about a few minutes, inputting respective keys, Circuit continued setting up an endless loop of encrypted locks with one hand, while she reached over with the other and pulled out a plug connecting the dummy computer to the rest of her system.

Circuit, though, despite feeling a small bit of relief in knowing that her computer system would go unharmed, knew that by now people would have been able to track the location of the dummy computer, and had probably dispatched some sort of law enforcement to come apprehend her. They would likely dismiss her as a somewhat talented hacker, but that wasn't enough to keep Circuit from going to prison. If she wanted to keep out of such unsavory places, she needed to get the point across, now, that she was too valuable for them to simply put away behind bars. Despite the fact that she had given them a somewhat ridiculous nickname, hackers employed by the government were likely paid handsomely, and the best out of them were former hackers themselves. Circuit would just have to convince people that she would make a better Noble Hack than a simple prisoner, and chances were, there would be a bit more support for the former option, as she wasn't even an adult.

With this in mind, Circuit hurriedly severed her connections to all the cameras she was using, and set to work, typing faster than any other Jorro'kil could manage, as she wrote a small, simple scare-ware virus, based off of the most old-fashioned kinds in existence, the ones that would cause monitors to show an image along with playing a noise at max volume from the speakers. She encoded a symbol she was using to represent herself, a silhouette of what appeared to be a Jorro'kil hand, albeit with five digits instead of the usual four, containing a pattern that was clearly meant to look like a circuit board. She set this cryptic symbol for the image, and instead of making the virus play a noise, she coded so that it would make the volume and speakers of the computers go dead-silent. Once this was done, she wrote a large amount of special encrypted data onto the virus, making it very hard, but not impossible, to locate and purge from a system, though it would be difficult for anyone, even if they were skilled. She ran the virus through an enormous number of locations, to the point that it would be near-impossible to track the rest of her equipment, and then, finally, piggybacked it onto a small wisp of signature that one of the Noble Hacks hadn't managed to conceal, sending the custom scare-ware directly into whatever system the Noble Hacks were using.

If Circuit was good enough to stay out of prison, and be worth something as a Noble Hack herself, her scare-ware virus would infect all the systems she had targeted, be untraceable back to the original computer it came from, revealing that she hadn't been using all of her skill previously, and it would take a considerable amount of time for her pursuers to remove the virus from their systems. Afterwards, they would immediately know she had just been toying with them, because as annoying, and perhaps frightening, as the scare-ware was, it wouldn't do any damage to their systems, which was signature of a real criminal. It would be immediately obvious Circuit knew that she had been caught, and had decided to show them that she was a lot better than they gave her credit for, and that the virus that could defeat the best of their Noble Hacks was proof. Circuit leaned on her left hand, cracking a small smile at the screen, Let's see if you change your tune, now, you don't know who I am in person, and I'm obviously not your average hacker. You won't get the meaning behind my symbol, either, unless you come and meet me yourselves.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Zaroas Tue May 20, 2014 7:18 pm

Oraav whipped around as soon as he heard the sounds originating from the atrocity behind him, staring in disbelief from under the helmet. The Krathunian instantly recognized what the soldier turned monster truly was. The Karthla, which could only be described as abominations, a bestial curse placed upon the galaxy, a cancerous plague that threatened all that stood before it, and those who had slaughtered the gods of the Krathunians. Both disgust, horror, and surprise overcame Oraav's emotions, the last due to the fact that a Karthla was on this colony, and if there was just one of the anathemas on this world, there was no doubt in Oraav's mind that more would come. A full-blown planetary infection would be the worst possible outcome, but also one of the most likely.

Despite this, Oraav had a quick reaction time, and was experienced in dealing with Karthla, having been a part of many of the Covenant's covert operations into Dominion colonies before their admittance into the Confederacy and his role in the retaking of Sethega. However, he did not have enough time to fully activate his gauntlet based plasma cutter or take out a pulse grenade, though his rifle was primed. Oraav turned, firing off a couple shots from the weapon, the orange streaks of hardlight travelling incredibly fast towards their target, before stepping off the roof. With the clawed hand that did not hold his rifle, Oraav slowed his descend down the side of the building, his armored talons scraping the side of the structure and the friction significantly decelerating his fall. Upon reaching the ground, Oraav transferred power from his cloaking, revealing himself, to shielding. Coming to a kneel in front of the building, his back to the Jorro'kil soldiers, he pointed his rifle towards the roof, ready to fire upon the Karthla whenever it revealed itself.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Darkel Wed May 21, 2014 2:43 pm

The creature took the hits from the bullets, each striking it into left side of the abdomen. The creature did not seem phased. Extending claws, it lunged forward. It stopped before peaking over the edge. It smelled something. Something strange. Gun fuel, a scent that was acidic in the nose of a Karthla. Quickly spewed a black liquid over the edge, an acidic liquid that would burn and singe an individual that it fell on. The creature then turned and scraped off into the metropolis of buildings. It was obvious now that this was a Brooder. The Karthla that starts the infestation. It would have the most intelligence of the hive, minus the Overlords. But the Brooder knew what smell was dangerous and how to flee and was adaptable and capable of surviving.

COM Traffic Observatory Station Beta, Military District

Administration Chamber 07

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sudden silence, and the screens all turning to show the strange five-fingered symbol, were unnerving to the operators, however, their overseer, one very persistent no-nonsense Kil, was immediately responsive to the hacks.

"Force a screen reboot, reanalyze all systems, and isolate any sources of infection. Is the data we located from the hacker's systems safe?"

"Yes Sir, it has been safely transferred to a seperate system."

"Good. Now, start breaking down the infected databases. Keep them isolated but do not purge them. We will keep them for future analyses, to improve our systems. Don't bother trying to trace the virus back to its owner, we already have the information we need."

With that, this ambitious Kil sought out to find their unwanted intruder, in person.

Viem and several others turned around to look at the newcomer, with one of them asking; "Who the 'rakk er you?"

"He's a Krathunian.. who apparently has had a run-in with our new.. friends." Viem replied, all the while eyeing Oraav.

"We need to leave here." He muttered.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by ViperaUnion Sun May 25, 2014 9:07 pm

When the doorbell rang, an old man's hollering could be heard, "Coming, coming," as footsteps came towards the entrance. The sound of what seemed like a million different locks were undone and when the door finally opened, just a crack, still held closed by a short length of high-quality chain, and an elderly veteran by the name of Xekrat answered. A former infantryman, he had served in the Dominion and Torselas wars, and had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. He was now exhibiting what was known as the thousand-yard-stare, and it seemed that the simple act of knocking must have triggered some sort of bad memory, but the old man quickly snapped out of it, and focused on the person at his door. He squinted his eyes, "Who are you? Are you one of Xelkma's tutors?" He asked.

The old man had feathers that were almost completely grey, and his eyes were a pale shade of searing blue. It seemed he had been very handsome at one point, and still was, if it were not for the fact that he had dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. He was wearing a long-sleeved tan jacket, made out of lighter, cooler fabric, and pants that went well with it. His choice of footwear was made to provide protection even in a severe condition, though Jorro'kil feet soles were not that sensitive. The poor man's dress and appearance was still somewhat based off of efficiency in a dangerous situation, it seemed, even though there was a weak attempt to be casual.

"Uncle, please just let the man in, I doubt he is any sort of enemy threat." A female teen's voice could be heard calling. She appeared around the corner of one of the walls from a hallway, blinking as though her enormous, wide, dark brown eyes hadn't yet adjusted to the brighter light; there were prominent dark circles underneath them, as though she had not been sleeping well, although they were not as severe as her Uncle's. She walked with a prominent hunch to her shoulders, but she held her arms folded behind her back. She was wearing comfortable black sweatpants, and a short-sleeved black shirt that seemed to be several sizes too large. Her feathers were a very dark color, and were more grey than blue, and on the edges of the ones coming from her upper arms, very small, it seemed, faded to a periwinkle color around the edge, as did her hair at the tips.

Her hair was impressive, a wild, tangled mane that fell to the middle of the back, seemingly having not been washed in awhile. Her beak was so pale from lack of sunlight that she had a grey-white tinge to it, and overall, she simply looked as though she had not taken care to look after her own appearance. What was notable, about the girl, was that she walked barefoot, and that the fact that she possessed three front toes instead of two, seemed to be the cause. She tapped her foot calmly, and it seemed that the extra does worked perfectly, as though it could have been a perfectly natural arrangement of the foot, "I know you are supposed to be my guardian, but I have been stuck in the house for a long time."

Xekrat looked back at her, "Well, it's not as though you leave the house regularly!" He said, offended, "You come out of your room to when I answer the door, now that is strange!"

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Zaroas Mon May 26, 2014 6:16 pm

Oraav stood up straight and turned to the group of Jorro'kil as the Karthla Brooder left, the acidic fluid that it had spewed over the edge of the building having missed the Krathunian. He held his rifle down at his side with his right hand, choosing not to carry it at the ready at this particular moment, as he did not want to be seen as hostile by the group of soldiers. Despite his medium size for a Krathunian, Oraav still towered over the Jorro'kil. He chose to conceal his identity. After all, he was an infiltrator, and revealing who he was could still jeopardize his campaign against the Purists on this colony - though that might not matter now that there were infected Karthla on the planet. To do this, he kept his helmet up and chose to use his nickname.

"I am Seeker," He greeted them, going not with a formal kneel but with a nod of the head. "It may be a good idea for me to join you. Against these beasts, you will need all the firepower you can get ahold of." As if to prove his worth in combat, he bent his knee in an odd manner, the minor cybernetic augmentations letting out a quiet whirr that could still be heard.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by Darkel Tue May 27, 2014 12:01 am

There was another scream not far away, as two Jorro'kil mutants ripped at a child who had strayed too far from its parents. Quickly authorities scrambled. Raiko and his squad having stopped just several blocks away as a transmission came over his COMM stating that the situation had been taken care of. He looked down the alleyway, seeing the Krathunian and the other soldiers. He came down, giving a greeting with a dip of his head. "What's going on here?" he asked. It was only interrupted by a tall, greasy Jorro'kil male that tore into one of his soldiers from behind. Black grease coated the mangled an molted feathers, eyes bulging out and deep red, oozing puss and would eventually swell away into deep, narrow slits. Raiko fired until the creature was down and looked at the others. "Does anyone else think this isn't natural?"

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

"Are you trying to be sarcastic?" Viem asked. "And you would be.. Raiko? The one who sent the COM that WE came down here for?"
He paused, glancing at Oraav. "Well, I dunno about this one." He said, gesturing to the Krathunian with his rifle.
Viem looked down at their dead, then at nothing in particular, thinking. "Alright, listen, we'll get our dead and wounded out of here, and then signal for a ride back to the Complex."

Viem referenced the Military Complex on Sivoma, the standard establishment present in all Jorro'kil colonies. It was a high-security collection of multi-level buildings, and was placed near the center of the city.

"Du'rakk." He said.

The Kil standing outside eyed the plethora of locks, and yet was surprised to see the absence of the standard laser lock.

"You know, slatlocks really are quite efficient." He said. He referred to them as "slatlocks" as the "keyhole" of sorts was a metallic slat. The lock worked by sliding a special, laser-equipped key over the slat, signalling the grooves within it, which prompted the connected machinery to unlock the bolt. The slat itself was equipped with a special laser made to read the code number of the key made for it, and if a key using a different laser frequency, or a key with a different code number attempted to activate the slat mechanism, it would automatically lock shut and become unresponsive for fifteen minutes. If attempts at unlocking it with a foreign key continued, it would increase from fifteen minutes, to thirty, and so on.

"I'm surprised you would prefer... these, over them." He said to Xekrat, peering through the crack in the door. "Ah, no, I'm not a tutor.. Xekrat.. correct? Served in the Dominion and.. Torselas Wars. Declined service in our war with the United Fleets of Independant Artificial Intelligences."

"I've come to see either you or your.. daughter, is it?"

"There are some complications that I need to sort out."

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by ViperaUnion Thu May 29, 2014 10:03 pm

Xekrat scowled, "Daughter? Do I look like I'm young enough to have a daughter still living in this house? I don't even have any kids of my own, I never got married! Of course I declined service, I'm too old to keep fighting, the nightmares make me lose all hope of getting some decent sleep!" He said, irritably. He then took a deep breath to calm himself, "Look, I don't know what you want with me, I'm no longer in any need of your therapy for post-traumatic stress victims, I haven't had it for a long time. If you're not here for that, then you're obviously looking for my great-niece, Xelkma. I've been looking after her for most of her life, and her parents are never home; I'm all the family she has, and her real parents haven't been home for three years."

He fixed the stranger with a sharp eye, "With this in mind, you look like you mean business, and I don't like the government meddling in my affairs anymore. I mean no offense, but I've seen too much pain and suffering in my lifetime to see it happen to my niece. She has a special medical condition, and although she has been given a special blend of tutoring in various things a soldier would study, she is not made for that sort of work. Considering that whatever business you're here on is regarding Xelkma, because there's no reason one would so much as give me a second glance, I imagine that somewhere along the lines she's done something to get herself in trouble." He sighed, and rubbed his temples, "She's a brilliant girl, my niece, but nobody can know for sure what's going on inside of that mind of hers."

He closed the door, and the final lock clicked, allowing the door to swing open freely. Xekrat stood aside, allowing the Kil inside. "Please, come inside, and pardon the look of the place." He said. The main room where one entered was extremely clean, no doubt a habit that had stuck after military training, unless one of the home's two inhabitants happened to be a neat-freak of sorts. The problem was not sanitation, there wasn't any true mess to speak of, but the decorating itself. It seemed like the arrangement of the room's decor was in patches, starting in one style at one end, and then changing to something else in another place. The overall effect was a complete lack of any sort of matching whatsoever that carried throughout the room, and the wide array of colors and shades made one slightly dizzy, until they adjusted to it. Clearly, Xekrat's bizarre design habits were directly stemming from his eccentric mind.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Raiko nodded. "There's a few of those... things, down a block or two, that we put down. They were quite hard to kill. This isn't all that normal. I'm starting to believe it's something from outside the planet. Maybe even... maybe Karthla."

"Karthla? Seriously?" added one of the soldiers from behind. "If it were Karthla, we'd be dead by now. It's just a few terrorists pumping chemicals into civilians. Now, let's go." The soldier said. Raiko looked back at him, thinking he might be right and wrong at the same time. His mind was full of the "it's not likely it would come here," scenario. In truth, these local authorities had no idea what they were dealing with, as many of them had never even left the colony. To them, Karthla was only a legend.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Oraav shook his head at the soldier's remarks, gripping his rifle in a rather tense manner. "I fought the Karthla both before and during the campaign to retake Sethega," he growled in a hushed tone, not wanting to attract attention to their current location. "I know a Karthla when I see one. I'm perfectly aware of what they're capable of. It's impossible to think that the current threat could be anything else." He paused for a second. "Besides, such virulent beasts spread their plague anywhere they can. If they can infect Sivoma, they will." Oraav looked around to all the others. His right gauntlet shifted as he observed the Jorro'kil, revealing his plasma cutter. "We need to get moving, now. Staying in one place for too long against the Karthla is never a good idea."

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

"Agreed." Viem said. He turned back to his troops, ordered two of them to pick up the unconscious soldier that had been attacked, and announced they would be moving out. Shortly afterwards, Viem put himself in pace with Raiko. "Let's keep these Kils open to the possibility of a Karthla infection. If those bodies truly were - Karthla - they need to be able to react accordingly." His step quickened once more, and he took the lead, along with Oraav.

Viem had fought during the original Dominion War, and he fought mostly Karthla. He knew of those beasts' potential, and couldn't stand for them to be underestimated. He had seen too many of his fellow soldiers die.

Tense seconds brought them out of the alley, and out into the open streets. The same MPs were there.. dead.

"Du'rakk." Viem muttered.

The uniformed officer looked about the room with a sort of subtle amazement. His gaze met almost every aspect of the room, some of it lined with trinkets unique to certain colonies, an indication Xekrat had been stationed at them at one time, and some souvenirs from alien cultures. He commented; "Unusual style."

He turned around and looked down at Xelkma. "I do believe you are the one I would be looking for. You see, I've been having some trouble, and I think you are the cause of it." Such a claim would have offended anyone, yet this officer was so confident of himself that he didn't mind his own audacity, nor its effects on others.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Circuit raised one eyebrow, "I won't lie and say I'm not, but if 'trouble' is defined as not believing everything that the media states, and then using my own abilities and resources to find out the truth for myself, and later, attempting to save my own feathers when I make an error I'm usually not careless enough to make, then yes, I have caused you much trouble over the years that you aren't even aware of." Her wide, staring eyes had an intelligent gleam in them, already knowing that this officer was present on the account of her hacking. She then shrugged, "I'm not really all that bad, though, I like finding information, but that doesn't mean I abuse it; I use it to my advantage from time to time, but I never do any real damage or harm to people when I use it, I'm not that kind of person." She pulled her hands out from behind her back, and folded her arms, revealing five fingers on each hand, instead of four, the fingers of her right hand drumming dexterously against her elbow, so quick they became tiny blurs. "Don't be so vague, officer, when I know why you are here, and the grounds on which you were dispatched; I know when my secrets are found out, and I merely attempted to give myself a bargaining chip, since there are things running loose in the city right now that I happen to fear more than the law."

Xekrat looked at his great-niece, "Xelkma, tell me you haven't been doing illegal things on your computer!" His brows furrowed, and he scowled, angry, "You told me you wouldn't harm anyone with your technological know-how, and now the military has a bone to pick with you!"

Circuit looked over at her uncle, "Even though I could potentially do so, I have never used my abilities to actively harm people."

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

The Kil in uniform raised a hand and cocked an eye at Circuit. "Yes, well, if you've finished your monologue.." He paused, walked around roughly in a circle once, and continued; "..We.. I can get to the point of this visit."

He glanced up at the bizarre ornamentation, then let his gaze fall upon Circuit, whom Xekrat had called "Xelkma." She was very unkempt in appearance, but the official ignored it.

"Xelkma, is it? I seem to recall some historical figure with a similar last name.. Perhaps a heroine. Nevermind that. I am here for two reasons. One, to tell you the rather obvious, that you should not.. can not be allowed to go unpunished with the information you have let.. seep out to yourself. However, I am not one for unnecessary adversity." He said.

"The second reason is to evaluate your potential. You have proved yourself to be quite.. capable in the digital and technological field. Yet your stature and overall demeanor proves to me that you would be unfit for the task I had in mind. So I will leave you now. If your meddling continues unsupervised I will not hesitate to have consequences enforced."

His accent of the word "unsupervised" was one hint. He turned to leave, and waited for Xekrat to open the door. He looked back once more. Would this she-kil understand? He was almost sure. Seconds passed as he anticipated a response.

Apocalypse II: Termination Empty Re: Apocalypse II: Termination

Post by ViperaUnion Sun Jul 06, 2014 8:22 pm

The She-kil unfolded her arms, and put on her hands on her hips, and proceeded to tap one foot, "I am aware that I am not a neat, polished-looking person, or someone with a pleasant personality, like the Noble Hacks that you are probably familiar with, but had you done your research, like I would have expected, you would understand that I have a rather unique situation, compared to the average Jorro'kil." She allowed her hands to fall, relaxed, by her sides, before sighing, "If you have been sent to see what I can do and assess me, to see if I have value to the military, then a mere conversation with me will tell you nothing about what you actually wish to know. You can only learn my motives, and what I claim I have the capability to do." She turned her back to walk away, "I merely speak in this fashion, because I have enough confidence in myself that I can confirm my claims. If you want to see my preferred environment, then follow me down the hall, considering that the people tracking me only touched one machine, that I had for the very purpose of trapping bugs."

With this, Circuit began to walk to the edge of a hallway around one corner, before stopping, "Also, I don't particularly like being called by my real name. I make a small profit remotely wiping viruses from the computers of regular users on the side, which is how I afford all of my equipment. Since I keep to myself, I go by the name of Circuit. Uncle Xekrat is the only one who used my real name, even my tutors don't call me Xelkma." She commented, before vanishing into the hallway.

Xekrat took a deep breath, and huffed through his nares, shaking his head slowly, "That She-kil is brilliant, and has quite a unique personality, but she is badly impaired on a social level. She forgets important things, too, which is why she doesn't look the part, she's actually not as independent as she behaves. She has a tendency to forget that as a Jorro'kil, she has to bathe, or even eat, for that matter. She can do a lot of different things, since she's talented, but she's incapable of taking care of herself on things that should be simple. I make sure she eats, and she drinks plenty of water on her own since she was very sick at one point from dehydration, but I just gave up on trying to instill a bathing habit; no matter how many times I tell her running water is a luxury, she doesn't appear to care, and in my advanced age, there's no way I could catch her if I decided to chase her."

He shook his head, "So, it comes down to you sir, on whether or not you want to follow my niece into her base of operations, as she calls it. I don't trust the law, but an old 'Kil like me couldn't argue with it, not after I've fought so many battles, as it is."
