The Makra Tribes

Empire Name: The Makra Tribes

Creator: Tonysaur

Species name: Makra

Homeworld: Deyatron 5

Size: Just one at the moment.

Biology: Makra are endothermic, bipedal, and have a calcareous endoskeleton, and typical mammalian lungs and diaphragm. However, they also have a thin, chitonous exoskeleton that is shed annually; they have two hearts, smallish eyes that resemble those of a spider in structure and function, only with better image-forming capabilities; and possess a light purple covering of fur-like pelage on all except the head, fingers and feet. This fur also has some darker purple markings. Their exposed heads, fingers, and feet show visible exoskeletal plating of a dark, purple-brown color. They have longish pointed ears, long, doglike snouts, clawed digits, and sharp teeth. They are digitigrade, with three toes to the front, and one inner toe which is usually held curled back off the ground, except when climbing when it is used for grasping. They have four fingers, one of which is an opposable thumb. They are good at climbing and jumping, and have a good sense of smell and hearing, although not quite as good as a Cavernian’s, for example. They average five to six feet in height (although members of the Bvandaquoi tribe tend to average seven feet in height), and are fairly strong in terms of endurance. They prefer a diet of meat, but can and do consume some fruit and other plant material.

History: The Makra are very recent comers to Galactic community, and unlike other races, have not come to their place through natural development. As chance has had things, a group of space travelers arrived on Deyatron 5 to load up on supplies; to their great misfortune, they were found and ambushed by a roving band of native raiders from the Gloscap tribe of the native species, the Makra. The raiders killed most of the crew, and confiscated the ship, weapons, and other technology carried by the space travelers. One particular individual, Natrix, stronger and smarter than the others, was awed by what they had obtained; he quickly realized that these new things offered power and influence beyond anything else he had ever imagined. Ambitious and cunning, Natrix promptly began taking steps to obtain more, namely, stealing from any space farers that came close enough. As his collection grew, he also began to realize that if he really wanted to become strong through these knew weapons and technology, he would have to learn to make them. He began capturing alien engineers and mechanics, and forced them to teach him what they knew. Within twenty years, Makra’s tribe had become the most powerful on the planet, and he claimed lordship over all of Deyatron 5. Ten years later, using the engineering and mining skills he has learned, he continues to build more weapons and ships, now made to suit his own tastes, although due to slow construction form the lack of skilled labor at his disposal, he still commits quite a bit of theft.

Culture: The Makra race is still divided up into many tribes, and culture still varies from tribe to tribe. Most are polytheistic, and still live according to their old traditions. Makra’s tribe, however, the Gloscap, have become increasingly devoted to military and technological “research” (aka, stealing technology and trying to figure out how to work and redesign it). The Gloscap frequently bully the other tribes, and often steal from them, thinking that other tribes should acknowledge them as superior. Although most of the Makra tribes at least fear the Gloscap, a few still maintain their own identity, the Bvandaquoi being the most prominent.

Military: The Gloscap are the only tribe that could really be said to have an actual military. They are mostly outfitted with weapons they have stolen or made from stolen equipment. The other tribes have individuals that act as warriors, but no true military. Most of their ships and larger machine and weapons are stolen, with a very small percentage being self-made.

Government: Hierarchy tends to be tribal, with the oldest and/or strongest controls the rest. The Gloscap acknowledge Natrix as their leader, and he likes to consider himself and emperor, claiming supreme power.

Strategies/Tactics: Most Makra have no real battle tactic other than to ambush enemies and/or attack them en masse; ferocity and strength are highly prized. The Gloscap are usually tend to be a little more organized, and are quite skilled at guerrilla warfare; however, they still have trouble incorporating modern battle techniques.
