Introduction

Welcome to the Factions of RG thread. The purpose of this thread is not only to provide detailed descriptions of existing factions and who they include, but also for members to request a race/empire to become part of one, or even submit a request to make their own. A bit of background on this is that Darkel and I decided that the factions of Ravena needed a lot of work to be more defined, as well as concerns of newer members not joining factions. While neutral races are, of course, allowed, being included in a major faction allows for more participation in story events and prevents smaller civilizations from being threatened by enormous groups of bigger ones. Note that your race/empire does not necessarily have to be a part of a faction, but can instead have some sort of allegiance or tendency to side with one - An example of this is Vathoris siding with Confederate races in conflicts and being protected by them in events of danger.

How do I join a faction?

It's simple, really! In the past, one would send a PM, make a post in an OOC, contact moderators on the chatbox, or other things. However, I would like to formalize this process after receiving such requests and not actually getting anywhere with people who are also part of the faction. So, when you want to join a faction, simply fill out the form below.

Civilization Name: (What's the name of the empire that you would like to submit to a faction?)

Faction Wanted: (Just type the name of the faction you want to join here)

Current Alliances: (What alliances already exist? This is important because it defines established allegiances, which may help to decide which faction would be best to join)

Current Enemies: (Same as the above, but with enemies. For example, you may not want to join the Confederacy if you're at war with the RWF)

Ideological Information: (This is likely one of the most important factors in deciding if you'll get into a faction or not. What does your civilization stand for, believe in? Factions are highly ideological in nature so this is truly a deciding part of the form)

General Information: (Give some info on the size, military, etc - anything that you feel would be helpful in deciding if your empire works in the desired faction)

Contact: (If we need to ask you a question about your empire with regards to factions, please specify if there is any way you preferred to be contacted in, such as PMs, a response here, etc.)

Other: (Any other information you think may be necessary can go here)

How do I create a new faction?

This is also pretty simple, but it requires more work and talk with Administrators/Storymakers. A new faction needs to have defining elements that properly differentiate it from those that already exist. Additionally, we need to make sure that a new faction won't be highly overpowered or underpowered. Again, fill out this form.

Faction Name: (Pretty self explanatory)

Creator & Collaborators: (Put your name here. If you're working with anyone on this, also list them here)

Defining Elements: (What makes your faction unique? Specify it here)

Ideology and Other Information: (Give us some information on your faction, especially their ideology and what they stand for in Ravena)

Members: (What civilizations are you planning on including here?)

Reasoning: (What is the reason for making this faction, both from an IC and OOC perspective?)

Contact: (See the above form)

Other: (Any other information you feel is necessary to show goes here)

Balancing

A particular concern among the moderating team is all the factions being balanced, that is, no one faction can completely overpower another or the rest objectively. This is especially a concern when one faction has many members and another has very few. While we do not want to place an absolute limit on the amount of members that can join a faction, it is something we will keep in mind when deciding if your empire can join a faction or if a submitted faction will work.

Discussions

Not only is this a place for submitting races to factions and submitting factions of your own, we would also like to encourage discussion about the factions among members. Really anything can be discussed, such as goals, hypothetical situations, and more!

Take a look at the second post for submissions and information on existing factions.

Existing Factions

Below, you can view information on the factions that currently exist in Ruthless Galaxy. Note that some information is canon according to our plans for the reworked original Disruption.

The Confederate Nations of Ravena

"No pitiful beast may strike at the heart of liberty."

The Confederate Nations of Ravena (CNR), known to many as simply the Confederacy, is a group of empires dedicated to preserving the freedom and sovereignty of all its inhabitants. Originally created with the purpose of opposing the Dominion in an organized manner, the Confederacy evolved into something of a galactic peacekeeping entity, intervening in many conflicts to preserve peace while still maintaining the liberties of all nations. However, the Confederacy has been subject to criticism regarding their complacency in certain conflicts, particularly affairs surrounding the Dranzoot after the fall of the original Dominion. Additionally, controversy surrounds allegations that Confederate nations engage in dubious and unlawful (according to their own legislature) practices, heavily militarizing despite their purpose, and acting on their own interests rather than what would benefit Ravena as a whole. Despite this, the Confederacy maintains their commitment to democracy, equality, and liberties. Its nations are known for broad rights for citizens, while managing to keep order intact, though not to the same degree as others. The Confederate economy is capitalistic in nature, and due to a high presence of artificial intelligences, is tightly sustained. This is characterized by many enormous corporations that have exorbitant influence in their respective governments. Additionally, despite its relative liberalism, there is a sense of honor and tradition among many in the Confederacy.

Currently, the Confederate Nations of Ravena consists of the Jorro'kil Free Absolute (JFA), the Ryun-Wreae Federation (RWF), the Intragalactic Krathunian Covenant of Sethega (IKCS), the Markovan Empire, the United Fleet of Independent Artificial Intelligences (UFIAI), and the United Xikarian Nations of Norcius (UXNN). While the Confederacy is, by nature, an association of these sovereign civilizations, it is governed centrally by the Confederate Assembly, which meets at the capitol of Ieegar, the homeworld of the Ryun-Wreae Federation. The Assembly consists of three representatives from each nation, which meets periodically in a formal manner to debate on matters and make decisions, though this is also done informally over galactic networks. While no entity formally has more influence than an other, depending on the current state of a country's military, society, economy, etc, it may informally be more powerful.

The Unified Dominion

"Follow us and receive your salvation."

The Unified Dominion, or simply the Dominion, is a faction which was founded several hundred years ago by the Jadel known only as Lord Kradus. The Dominion was created to offer a supreme galaxy-wide guidance which would unify all empires into a singular governing force, offering peace to the entire galaxy of Ravena. The Dominion strives to achieve this goal through almost any means necessary. Economic or military conquering is not beneath them, and their will is law. The same way, all defiances a are punishable and the Dominion acts in a very totalitarian way. The Dominion's economy acts in a very "utopian" way, according to its economic experts. All individuals receive the same pay save for those in the political or military fields. A percentage of the money goes to the government and another percentage goes to the public. The Dominion endorses freedom laws, however it respects a "get one, give one" principle and thus subjects selections of the public to temporary slavery states as to improve society and give discipline to civilians. The crime rate within Dominion worlds is extremely low as compared with other factions, primarily because of the Dominion's treatment and disposal of criminal life having affected public behavior.

The current empires contributing to the Dominion are the Zraak Syndicate, the Dranzoot Sovereignty, the Vaurik Synod, the Varmal Grande Armadas, and the Eldraunn Architects. The ruling race of the Dominion is the Zraak, who started the alliance. However, they are managed by small groups of Jadel, the last remnant of their kind. In politics, the will of Kradus is the absolute and definite law of the Dominion. No word can rise against his and while the other leaders are allowed to cast their input, the actions of the Dominion will ultimately be determined by Lord Kradus.

The Terminus Pact

"Progress and evolution never halts, not even for gods."

The Terminus Pact was created during the convergence of several civilizations at the behest of Praedromus and the Vrentus Collective as they swore to promote each others self interests, as many of these were shared. While originally a simple agreement, over time, the Pact was made official and became more centralized and structured. Despite this, the Pact is less authoritative as an entity than the other factions and nations within it remain very independent. As such, the Pact does not have a singular economy, as its output is based around what composes it. Additionally, laws also depend upon individual states. Above all else, however, the Pact is united in its shared goals and purposes, particularly that of making the galaxy more progressive and advanced as a whole, as well as more "pure" and homologous. There is a perceived element of xenophobia outside the Pact, and while the Pact believes in a degree of racial purity, particularly with the Vrentus, this is more technological and ideological in nature. The Pact wants unity - Not by conquest, but by evolution of technology and races, and beliefs shared all throughout the galaxy.

Currently, the Terminus Pact is composed of the Vrentus Collective, the Loccalians, the Imperial Despot of Jiiran, and the Vil'Nolwikkan Greater Dominion. The Pact does not have an official leader, and its central governance is a conglomeration of leaders from each of its civilizations, representing each of these. However, Praedromus is recognized as an unofficial leader of sorts, having enormous influence due to both creating the Pact and his power in general.
