More Planets? Empty More Planets?

Post by Darkel Tue Oct 16, 2012 10:07 am

I just noticed most of our storylines take place in space. We should add some on-planet storylines. For real though, we do a lot of spaceship plots. Let's make some planets! Gimme a name of a planet and describe it and we'll use it in time!

More Planets? Empty Re: More Planets?

Post by Scrylonsis13 Wed Oct 17, 2012 2:27 pm

Here's one idea.

Name: Planet Entiquis
Size: 40,000 miles in diameter
Biome: Entiquis is mostly covered in swamps and mountains. The swamps are dark and rugged while the mountains are snow capped and bright. The poles are fully iced over all year round.
Population: Scattered trides of various species
Moons: 3

More Planets? Empty Re: More Planets?

Post by God-mod Wed Oct 17, 2012 3:23 pm

I just copied this from my dead RP on the sporum, but I think the planet ideas could be recycled.
Jamaga
Jamaga is a tropical planet with one large moon, that closely orbits the planet, creating massive tides, that surge around the equator in what appears to be a gigantic ocean, that gouges a massive canyon around the planets circumference, form space, it looks almost like a ring around the entire planet, and there are very few lakes and rivers anywhere else on the planet. Also, the atmosphere bulges out near the equator to the point where it ‘touches’ the moons atmosphere. The moon is not like our moon at all, it is large enough to maintain an atmosphere and has been ‘contaminated’ with life form the planet below it, and is a slightly boggy, with many strange species of carnivorous plants.

The planet itself, is generally around 95 degrees and very humid, and the native life there, is mostly amphibious, repetitious or piscine, although there are a few species of mammals present, the environment is a bit to tropical for them to have an evolutionary advantage. The planet is covered in thick jungles and has a few major cities, scattered among the vast forests and swamp lands surrounding the ocean, the government is very similar to that of Brazils, with civilized peoples living alongside tribal natives. Jamaga is a major fruit, nut and fungi exporter, because of the planets immense bio diversity, they are also big in the drug trade, smuggling several intoxicating types of plants unique only to that planet, to other empires. They are also a major exporter of oil, have large oil drills and sieves, creating a vast network of oil caring pipe lines across the jungle terrain, and the native people have come to call the oil quote ‘the devils excrement’ because of the horrible environmental trouble the drilling industry has caused… the combination of the drug and oil industries have made the planet very rich, but also corrupt because the majority of the people live in squalor while the rich business owners and figure heads get a good majority of the money, along with the local crime industries, but they never talk so they might as well not be there at all.

Gleeza

Gleeza is a bit odd, because it had three times the amount of gravity pushing down on it at ground level than the earth does, this is a result of the planet being much larger that earth. As a result any and all land life is large, slow and compact, having a general gelatinous appearance to compensate for the immense gravity, which would crush any bone structure anything on the surface may have. As far temperatures go, Gleeza is a ghastly zero degrees Centigrade, during the summer… which is why the life present is gelatinous, during winter, you can safely say that if you had a pot of boiling water and spilled it, it would be frozen before it even left the kettle. It does, however have a large forest, similar that of the northern portion of the taiga in Russia, except the plants on Gleeza survive the frozen winters by becoming carnivorous in summer, extruding massive amounts of glue, which forms what looks like dewy spider webs hanging from the trees, with drops of bioluminescent pigments (flashing from blue to crimson) lighting up the forest at night, attracting tourists and the few native animals capable of swarms, which all resemble flying squid in shape, and by morning, the trees are covered in death and desiccation, they then absorb the nitrates released from the bodies when they thaw briefly at about 12 o’clock AM, by secreting large amounts of folic acid.

It is for this reason, that the intelligent life there lives in a gigantic tubular city/tourist trap ring suspended around the planet in space, the reason why anyone lives there at all is for tourist purposes only, because of the bioluminescent forests, which can be seen spanning the globe from space, lighting up like a stars in the normally dark world, the show, is what makes the planet the 9th most romantic (and ironically, deadly) planet in the galaxy. Unfortunately, it is also one of the biggest exporter of deadly neurotoxins harvested illegally from the trees glue, (and the trees claim many of the illegal workers lives) and exported throughout the galaxy to be used in the making of weapons and poisons, and also in some cases drugs. The planets government consists of mostly of tourist organizations, who basically just try and get you to spend as much of your money there as possible, and they even have a underground deal with the illegal toxin industry that they will cover their butts as long as they get a percentage of the profits made from their sales.

Valdie

Valdie is a small rocky planet covered in temperate forest in the north, which closely resemble the Canadian environment, except instead of long grass, the ground is covered in millions of species of lichen, during the summer, these lichens send up ‘flowers’ which are metallic blue in color and are basically a rubber ball filled with a clear, sweet smelling, nectar like fluid. It is this seasonal bloom that makes Valdie worth mentioning, because the fluid contains several intoxicating chemicals similar in chemical structure to opium when distilled, however, when handled carefully, the substance can be used both in the medical field to coat surgical implants to prevent biological rejection, and as a organic sweetener that actually helps with diabetes. Unfortunately, when in its toxic state, the fluid has its highest selling price, and can be easily converted from alternative sweetener form to drug form and back using the process of superheating and then distillation of the solids in an alcoholic base. A recent study has been conducted on its chemical properties and long term effects on subjects who were using the sweetener and suffered ‘statuefication’ where the person becomes paralyzed in whatever position they were in, giving the effect of a statue. The study found that ingestion of the sweetener and then some form of alcohol resulted in (big surprise) minute amounts of the intoxicating substance to form and build up in the nervous system after a while.

Obviously, the planets economy is built on the sales of the ‘blooms’ which, unfortunately is entirely legal as long as they are sold in their organic form of as a sweetener. The culture of the planet is highly superstitious, the average individual only scores a third grade understanding of sciences or less, but they know a lot about religious matters, and their people are often ‘blessed’ with visions and dreams of their messiah. The ‘upper classes’ however, are far more reasonable, in that they never seem to have any of these ‘dreams’ and maintain a much higher IQ standard, the government itself is very rich, but these riches are concentrated amongst the ‘noble families’ and government officials. In stark contrast, the higher you go in their culture, the more atheist the people seem, but no one ever seems to want to investigate the ‘lower classes’ let alone be in the same room as them.

Parramu

Parramu is a desert planet in the Alvin Star system. The planet is a mixture of old and new, where there are skyscrapers next to pyramids. Most of the planet is controlled by groups of warring nomadic herders and archaic city-states. There is one major metropolis on Parramu called Celik, and it is one of the most advanced cities to date. In the center of the city is the Spore Needle, the tallest building in the galaxy. It's so tall that you need a pressure suit and an oxygen tank to go to the top floor.

Azulu

Azulu is a large, flat, red planet, covered in many desserts, similar in appearance to the Australian continent; its tracts of dry parched desserts are blotched with outcroppings of hardy plants, and underbrush that closely resembles passion fruit, with herds of what appear to be quadruped mammals roaming the aria, but the creature are actually plants, covered in whitish green fuzz characteristic to Petiolaris complex drosera, their ‘ears’ are actually modified cone shaped leaves that are covered in sticky tendrils similar to that of the previously mentioned drosera. In fact, most of the life there is not animal in origin, but rather plant, and in costal arias, the cliffs are covered in Cephalotus follicularis, which makes them look bloodstained from far off. The main predator of Azulu is a gigantic spider that looks similar to a red kneed tarantula in appearance, except it reaches a phenomenal size of 10 feet across; its venom causes instant paralysis of its victim and will quickly shut down its nervous system, leaving the creature dead within 15 minutes. To the south, the outback is more wet, and swampy in places, resulting in literal forests of drosera and dionaea, which, the drosera, stand about 20 feet tall, and look much like a goldish green colored tree with bright, bioluminescent red dew coating the tentacles that droop from the plants shield shaped leaves. To say the least, to be a bird there would be suicidal. Farther to the north, the land is covered in a vast jungle, (see the Australian jungle, it looks the same.) and the forest floor there, is splotched purple, pink, green, orange, red and silver by colonies of millions of pygmy drosera, whose dew glows a variety of colors at night, to attract prey. The ocean is basically like the earth prehistoric ocean, so watch where you swim, (I do not want to take up this entire section with one planet, even if it’s based on my favorite continent.)

Azulian economics is based largely on the sale of carnivorous plants in vitro, because, who doesn’t love a ‘little’ plant that is a living glow stick and eats bugs? Some of the plants are worth 2 grand when sold at specimen size, and are thus smuggled out of the planet by tourists and poachers, fortunately, with the plants go Azulian giant spider eggs, so it is not uncommon for the poachers to receive bites and die on the ship ride back the their planet. Surprisingly, while Azulu is infested with deadly killers, it has one of the highest standards of living in the galaxy, and another surprising thing, is that, while its waters are even more infested with deadly killers, swimming is the main sport there, and the beaches are usually filled with people, whether or not gigantic, and or venomous, poisonous, whatever, sea life is present. The government, is similar the that of the united states, except they are more open to creativity, and thus do not herring people about building things within architectural guidelines… in fact, there is even a colony of people who live in a abandoned opal mine in the middle of the dessert. Crime wise, the Azulian government lives off illegal sales, but it, unlike most governments, doesn’t go under because of it, or hog all the money at the top, in fact, the reason why they have the highest standard of living is because they fund these projects, and get money back on them, a sufficient amount so that the common Joe hardly has to pay any tax.

Ventino

Ventino is a small green planet that’s entire surface is covered in freshwater, which allows for more plant growth on its surface, with the result that the entire planet is completely covered in a sponge like moss, that floats over the water in one gigantic matt. The moss somewhat resembles sphagnum moss in that it feels like walking on a fat butt but other than that, it’s totally different, for one, it comes in a wide variety of colors, depending on the season, it will be either red, green, pink or orange-ish yellow. Structure wise, it’s made up of what look like a chain of star shaped, polyp like structures, which form a long, one inch thick fiber that is interwoven with a millions of others, forming the ‘continental matt’ as it is commonly called. Animal life on this swamp planet is very limited; basically, go to a peat bog in the Netherlands, and that about all you’re going to see, peat, peat, peat and Oh look! A frog! However, farther north, there is a bit of actual land, like, if you jump up and down on it the trees don’t move and the ‘ground’ doesn’t ripple like it’s only a couple of feet thick and floating on a massive lake that hasn’t see the light of day since who knows when, so who knows what’s down there. On this land, there is a very small outcropping of trees, that are not limited to being about as wide as your leg around, and a couple species of mammalian creatures, but apart from that it’s even more barren then the rest of the planet.

Civilization wise, Ventino isn’t all that bad, in a couple of arias, scattered across the globe there are a few decently sized cities, which by comparison to most cities, are extraordinarily light, on account of it they weren’t, they’d sink through the two foot thick layer of peat moss that suspends them above who know how many feet deep of black water. The buildings are made of a synthesized spider web like substance and are connected via the roofs with what looks like a clothes washing cable, the cable is in fact the only way you can get around the city, seeing as there are no doors into the buildings at ground level and it is literally impossible to get around on the ground because the buildings are interconnected there, making a big slanted surface that is too slippery to walk on due to rainfall. So when the planet is never visited by tourists, the locals all wonder why, seeing as they evolved from frogs, and thus possess the ability to actually use the ropes without falling to their deaths.

Government wise, the planet is very similar to Switzerland, enough said.

Awesome! We could definatly use that!

However we might not use Earth for certain reasons Vipera has pointed out to me before, but we'll see.
