Planet Kardine/ the Kardesh broods

Planet Kardine has no official name. Kardine was given to it due to the major Kardesh infestation it underwent. There is nothing left of the original ecosystem, just Kardesh forms prowling the planet. Everything from mammals, to birds, to marine life. Trees and shrubs infected with Kardesh also live there. In this thread, you and I can discuss the biology of the creatures there, how they behave and maybe eventually, how the creatures evolve. I will also work on the history of the plague and give the master forms view of the other races in the galaxy.

At the bottom of the ecosystem is a group of Kardesh called scavengers. They are able to survive in space and fly to other planets in the solar system, stealing life from them and returning it to Kardine. They themselves feed on spaciel winds. They use the kinetic energy from this phemonea to fuel their bodies. These beasts can grow to a few miles long and move at similar speeds to star cruisers. Also, when the prime specimen is threatened, they act like warships, infecting enemy spaceships and stations

After the scavengers comes the bulk of the Kardesh forms. Collectively known as the Rungs, these are made up of the smaller, more infantry like forms. They are in constant production at the main flesh hive. Rungs feed on the organisms that are scavenged by their larger counterparts. Sometimes, in famine situations, they feed on each other. During times of threat to the Flesh, the Rungs ride on the backs of the Scavengers to travel between worlds.

The third place in the ecosystem is the plant life. Known as Greech, any non-mobile flesh is counted in this category. The flesh can either form towering spires, deep tunnels, intricate vine like patterns or just simple blobs. On planet Kardine, huge city like structures have been formed that are constantly producing Rung creatures. After another few thousand years, the Greech will finally reach the planets core, rapidly releasing the pressure held within. The Greech will increase the pressure and the planet will rip itself to pieces.

At very top of the ecosystem is a huge beast called the prime specimen. It only forms when a planet reaches a high level infestation. These beasts have a limited degree of sentience and some telepathic control over the other forms. Prime specimens come in different varieties from the simple blob forms to the towering, tendriled master forms. They feed on the Rungs to sustain themselves but have a very high metabolism. These monsters are extremely rare. No one has ever seen one. Or if they have, they didn't survive.

If anyone wishes to add a Kardesh group just post it and I'll add it. But nothing outranks the prime specimen.

history of the plague

Metallic origin

The Kardesh plague was genetically engineered in the ancient times by the once grand and noble Forlarm realm. It was created as a weapon to be controlled and used sparingly. But not even a genius race like that can control something so unbelievably infectious and deadly. There was a major outbreak on a Forlarm colony that housed the empires entire store of the pathogen. Billions where killed and assimilated on that one planet. The Forlarm sent extermination teams to rid the planet of the Kardesh but even those where destroyed. That first planet sat for millenia, past the disappearance of the Forlarm and the fall of the Grox. All the while the monsters grew and changed their faces. By now, the planet was covered in huge cities made from Kardesh Matter. The planet became known as, planet Kardine.

The master

Coming soon…

Ok, I've expanded the idea of the reactions between my Federation and the pathogen -

1. It is very unlikely that a Ryun will be infected. When they are, they can be very powerful. However, Wreae machines can detect the oddity with these individuals from miles away because of different heat signatures.
2. Scavengers cannot infect their ships, however they can send Rungs aboard them. They can also attack the ships with their bodies
3. The Greech are completely unable to live on Federation planets. This is to make them a safe haven for the Federation and other species so the Kardesh do not take over the entire galaxy.
4. It is very hard for a Prime Specimen to survive on one of these planets. They retain power over the brood, but they are somewhat weakened.

Let me know if you want to add anything.

Well, they can still just rip them to pieces. The prime specimen can only survive on completely infested planets. I need to work on that section more.

Wait, so the Greech can still rip the planets to pieces? I'm not sure I exactly follow...

But, do you think the idea is a good one?

No, I was referring to the rungs. And yes I like your ideas. I'm currently working on a space based adventure where a fleet of scavengers attack a Fallerie asteroid base. So far it looks good but I need more scavenger forms. I've already made a small one that works like a fighter. I'll change it from Fallerie to something else so they can flee to federation territory. I might do them fleeing in the RP. Disruption I mean.

Ok, cool. Maybe you could ask permission to use the Jorro'kil from Whoster, as they are already starting diplomacy interactions and the like with the Federation. It wouldn't break lore if the Jorro'kil asked for help against this threat. Maybe we could incorporate it so the scientists of both discover that the Greech and the like can't spread to Federation planets?

I had an idea for an infectious race, but would parasites that take control of the hosts mind be too similar to yours, Scry?

Well, mine simply destroys the mind and body without killing it. Kind of. It wouldn't be too similar so long as it dosen't massively change the host appearance. The Kardesh are unique on their looks and rabid behaviour. Plus the small heirachy

I might use Jorro'kil zar, since they are already aware of the Kardesh after a massive infection on one of their less developed planets. We could have it so that a scavenger is chasing the escaping Jorro'kil but dies when it enters a federation planets atmosphere. Then you'll have a three mile long corpse to work with!

Well, I had the idea of a planet that was also some sort of immortal living creature that feeds on solar plasma (Sun's rays). I got the idea researching Cthulian gods (Perfect ideas for sci fi) and found out about Lu'Kuthu. Basically, the planet is a living thing that is at the mercy of orbit and stuff, and it has children that come in the form of parasites. These parasites won't dramatically change the appearance of their hosts, maybe alteration of color scheme, but that's it.

Sounds good Scry, I'm liking this idea.
Vipera, that's epic. Can't wait to see how they effect the RP.

Anyone else notice the sudden flux in pathogenic races in the RP?

Everyones copying me with that. Vipera, that's gonna be fun to watch grow and mature. Zar, if you want to make your own Kardesh on a federation planet from the scavenger corpse to like, observe and experiment on, it would really help the galaxies understanding of them. Of course, I'll provide the science behind it,

Well, I made the parasite!

Anyway, it doesn't have eyes, but it's not exactly meant to see.

I'll be making a few new creatures in the close future. I may also give the Kardesh a limited sentience/ strategic side. I'll try to get a spore cast up as well. Also, since I'm no good at buildings, would anyone like to try and make a few Kardesh spires for me?

I would Scry, but I think I've used up all the DRM for Spore and can't install it on this new computer.

Oh well. I guess it's not really needed, as an infection that size would be very unlikely to resist.
